Your opinion is your opinion, fine.

But he couldnt handle a 43 year old hopkins, toney was seriously quick handed at 160-168, had power in both hands, far more power than calzaghe btw, cos toney's power is proven against great fighters, better offense, better defense by light years.

I would have loved to see this fight, with calzaghe thinking he can jump in throwing wild wide shots and getting countered to death, toney beat better more techincally skilled fighters than calzaghe.
Well, if you're not prepared to even consider a post which describes Calzaghe winning, it's pretty unlikely you hold an unbiased opinion yourself, isn't it.

    • Toney has never looked great against fighters who throw faster then him. And at 168 Calzaghe definitely is faster then toney, toney is skilled but he panics when people are faster then him.

Calzaghe by ud, and probably a knock down in the fight but toney will get back up.

        Not bias, logic.

The bloke got outboxed by a past-it hopkins

Aint no way he gonna last against the 168 version of toney.

He would really get hurt, hopkins had him hurt at the end of round 7, that aint **** compared to the power toney would lay on him. Plus the fact he wouldnt land any significant on toney anyways, who could outbox calzaghe, out **** calzaghe, any way he wants it really.

Are you sure Calzaghe is faster? Toney is no slow man himself.

Just one example of his handspeed at 4:20.

              Calzaghe in his prime 3:00.

                Of course, you know why.

Cos contrary to Public belief James Toney aint Mikkel Kessler, and he certainly aint the 43 year old hopkins who had calzaghe going inbetween life and death.

It comes down the same thing, dont look for a calzaghe blueprint to beat toney in roy jones

                1) Toney was weight drained
                2) Joe Calzaghe fights nothing like roy jones, they are both fast, thats it, technically, jones is on another level.

Calzaghe is world class, but seriously, he couldnt land that off balance, wide offensive against a guy like toney, who hits way harder than him, has a better chin than him, is a better boxer than him.

                End of story, really.

                • If people can't clearly see that Toney is the better technical boxer then thats just ridiculous.

                  • Toney is the only boxer in compubox history to land 400+ punches on his opponents 4 or more times.

And 2 of those times, the fights didn't even go the distance (Barkley and Williams).

Toney had an great workrate and an even better connect percentage when he was in shape (prime).

Calzaghe's 1000 punches wouldn't have been anything that Toney hadn't seen before.

Jirov threw over 1000 punches at Toney, and he hits much harder than Calzaghe, and what did that get him.

The way to beat Toney is not to outwork him, it is to be slick and pick your shots and stay away.

Wild volume punching is going to get you KTFO!

Also, I really don't think Calzaghe's handspeed comes close to a prime Roy Jones. I'm not even sure he is much faster than Toney in his prime. He definitelyl isn't accurate.

Toney at 168 was an absolute beast when he was at his best.

Toney at 175 was also a savage man when he was motivated. Watch the Freddie Delgado fight.

And even to this day, 5 years later, nobody at heavyweight has been able to lay a beating on Holyfield like blown-up middleweight James Toney did. That was skill and instinct.

Do you think that Calzaghe would last even a minute standing toe-2-toe with Sam Peter like James Toney did for 24 rounds?

I'm not saying that I would write Calzaghe off 100% against Toney, just that a prime Toney brings way more to the table than Calzaghe has ever seen. And I'm not sure Calzaghe brings any more than a prime Michael Nunn, who Toney KO'd at age 22.
