what if: James Toney vs. Joe Calzaghe @ 168 (Prime for prime)

If you're talking about the Roy Jones fight, Toney was easily outpointed for 12 rounds yes but it not really a beating.
A boring fight really.
Man was Toney looking bad. He was gasping for air although he only threw about 300 punches.Last edited by TheGreatA; 05-22-2008, 06:47 PM.Comment

Yeah, all when he was out of shape. Thats like saying that Sedreck Fields would have still beaten an in shape and prepared Shannon Briggs on his best day. A fastasy match up is when both fighters are at their best, not choosing a fight where he looked his worst. Good job
But.....you can't just excuse Toney's bad performances that occurred during his prime and say they don't count. You can't. Toney handed in those performances so he is that fighter.
Now...I'm not saying that James Toney is a bad fighter at all, he was quality, but I'll take the Calzaghe that beat Kessler over the Toney that beat Barkley absolutely any day of the week. If you're looking for a single performance to show off your fighter's greatness, Joe wins that one hands down. His performance was better and his opposition was better.
Yes...I know prime for prime Barkley > Kessler, but that barkley was shot.
Anyway, they were both good and I like them both, just think Calzaghe was better is all.Comment

Common, Barkley better than Kessler cause he koed Tommy Hearns. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!But.....you can't just excuse Toney's bad performances that occurred during his prime and say they don't count. You can't. Toney handed in those performances so he is that fighter.

A fastasy match up is when both fighters are at their best. For example, thats like Calzaghe having a broken arm and lossing to a 1-1 fighter, then picking Edison Miranda to beat him becuase he lost to that bum, completely ignoring the fact that he had a broken arm and was not at 100%. Wouldn't you tell people that Calzaghe wasn't at his best and tell them to judge on one of his fights when he was at 100%? Thats my point. Using the Griffin, Jones and Tiberi fights are completely irrelevant.But.....you can't just excuse Toney's bad performances that occurred during his prime and say they don't count. You can't. Joe v Kessler > Toney v Barkley IMO
Barkley was shot, and Joe's performance was better than Toney's. I think so anyway. It was an awesome display of both defensive and offensive excellence.Comment
