I gotta go Toney by KO. He had some serious power at his lower weights.

This topic is kind of weird because of the fact that Joe Calzaghes prime is weird. We don't honestly know when he was in his prime, Calzaghes hands weren't brittle the time when Toney was fighting at supermiddle weight but he also wasn't as experienced back then. But now his hands are damaged and he relies more on his speed then his power.

I can understand people rooting for Toney to win by decision, but KO?? No one has come close to knocking Joe out, he got hit with a perfect punch by Hopkins, walked onto it and he was up before Cortez got chance to count; he walked through huge uppercuts from Kessler and walked onto another perfect punch from Mitchell.

A young Toney had the counterpunching skills that Hopkins used to give Calzaghe fits. Plus he had the stamina to do it more frequently for 12 rounds than Hopkins did.

However, Hopkins's defense looked to be better against Calzaghe than Toney's did against Jones, who fought somewhat similar to the way Calzaghe fights at that point.

I would probably go Toney, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if Calzaghe got inside of his shell and won enough rounds to get the decision.

                  One question.

If calzaghe could hardly land on a 43 year old hopkins.

How on earth would he land on Prime James Toney?

PS. I hope no one tries to tell me Calzaghe had more power than Toney at 168 pounds.

Honestly, i think Calzaghe is smarter then toney ever has been in his entire career. Toney was naturally gifted at 168, but he never seemed like an intelligent human bein to me personally. Brain vs Brain, I'd have to side with Calzaghe out smarting Toney.
