You can't put Calzaghe in the same class as a prime Roy Jones Jr.

As much as I love Calzaghe, no amount of hand speed and no amount of craftieness is enough to offset the pure physical advantages that a prime Roy Jones possessed.

Not only was Roy the most incredible physical specimen ever, he was one of the smartest fighters to ever step in the ring.

It would be a great fight, but Roy would take this.

The limeys just get too exicited with that 44-0 record sometimes.
Im not a fan of calzache but at least he's not getting flattened with his eyes rolled in the back of his head at age 36 like roy jones

You wanna talk about bums??? Lets not start naming the 40 bums out of the 45 fights that Joe has fought.

Don't even go there princess or you'll lose the arguement every time.

The best you can do is acknowledge that RJJ is one of the ATG's and hopefully hope that Joe gets a W over him and try to make a case for Joe. Anything else is a mistake.
After James Toney, RJJ fought a string of bums....fact. Then he got KOs by Antonio One-Dimensional Tarver, who is one of the most overrated boxers in the game today. So, no...I'm not impressed by Roy's resume. I was impressed with the way he dealt with those poor bums.

I'm just gonna post in here what I posted in a different thread.

Are you guys serious? Is everyone here forgetting how good RJJ really was in his prime? I like Calzaghe as much as the next guy, but come on. Roy was freakishly gifted and talented. That's a description you can only really say about rjj and Tyson.

Another thing is, Joe doesn't have an impenetrable defense or anything. That's never been his forte. He's always been fairly hittable. Joe is really fast with his hands and his legs, but I'm afraid to say prime rjj was just a whole different level. Not to mention Joe's knockouts have largely been stoppages due to continuous punching, not from solid concussive punches. He doesnt make people do the chicken dance like rjj did in his prime.
I'm a big fan of both guys but I could write a freaking essay on why Calzaghe isn't in rjj's class.

Yeah, but the winning essay would be the one that set out how and why Calzaghe would win.

He defeated all the top light-heavyweights and unified every title there was out there at 175. It took Joe 10 years just to add another title to his WBO scrap that he defended against any B-level contender that was willing to come over the Wales.

Like I said.........don't even go there.

You can defend Roy's bums, I can defend Joe's. But the bottom line is that Joe is 45-0 and has held his belt for over 10 years. Roy cannot make that claim. Joe is the only one that is still standing. Everybody else has fallen and now look to Joe for their chance back into the limelight. These facts speak for themselves. Calzaghe's the best. Always has been.

I dont think just because a fighter being undefeated makes him a great fighter.

You can cheerlead all you want with your artificial facts.

The only fact are that RJJ is a 4-division champ.

He is undefeated at super-middleweight with 5 IBF title defenses beating the best P4P fighter at that time, James Toney for the belt.

Beating every world champion at light-heavy that had a world belt.

                      12 title defenses at light-heavyweight
                      .

A unbeaten record doesn't mean ****. Rocky Marciano was the only unbeaten heavyweight champion, is he the greatest heavyweight of all time????
