You can't put Calzaghe in the same class as a prime Roy Jones Jr.

He is undefeated at super-middleweight with 5 IBF title defenses beating the best P4P fighter at that time, James Toney for the belt.

Beating every world champion at light-heavy that had a world belt.

      12 title defenses at light-heavyweight
      .

A unbeaten record doesn't mean ****. Rocky Marciano was the only unbeaten heavyweight champion, is he the greatest heavyweight of all time????
      There you go.

I'm a big fan of both guys but I could write a freaking essay on why Calzaghe isn't in rjj's class.
Although I agree with you that Jones Jr would beat Calzaghe, albeit in a very close tough contest, why do I so often hear about Calzaghe having no defense? He's one of the craftiest, most underrated in terms of defense fighters today. He is rarely hit flush unless he wants to be and is in crazy throw-down mode, otherwise he is just as difficult to hit as any of these 'defensive' geniuses.

If he was so easy to hit don't you think a big hitter would have cleaned him up by now? I always find it weird when people say this. It makes me wonder whether many have even seen his fights.

Joe Calzaghe is definitely in the same class as Prime Roy Jones Jr....Prime for Prime Calzaghe vs Jones could go either way, but I would lean towards Calzaghe.

Jones is the overall more skilled fighter, but Calzaghe is just as fast, if not faster than a prime Jones....Calzaghe is a lot tougher than Jones, he has an iron chin, big heart and is a fierce warrior...Jones on the other hand isn't as tough, he can't take a punch and has a glass chin....I think Prime Calzaghe would KO Prime Jones, Calzaghe in his prime before all the broken hand injuries hit a lot harder than he does today, he would be fast enough to tag Roy's weak chin and put him to sleep.

Great points Benny. So many people here decide on their agenda, then just come up with spin to validate it without even watching objectively. Anyone who said that Calzaghe is weak defensively really has no idea of what they are talking about. Roy at his best would probably beat Joe, but it isn't like it wouldn't be a two sided story.

If the two swapped resumes, it might change you Calzaghe fans perspective. If that '0' means that much to you, do you think he would still have it if he had faced Roys opponents. I don't think so.

Prime Roy Jones is boxing. Put that man in any era, and he would come out on top. He's had his fair share of bums, but who hasn't?

I think Calzaghe would mix in well with prime Benn, Eubank, Mclellan, Collins, possibly Toney.......but Jones Jr? That's laughable.
