Tarver: "Calzaghe, I'm The Real Champion"

And of course since Tarver is the one of the greatest fighters of all time he will say he's a bigger name than Calzaghe, so he'll claim that he should have the bigger purse, the selection of the venue, what type of gloves to wear, etc.
What a twat.Comment

No chance? The idea of boxing is that it pits mere mortals (which ironically would include Joe Calzaghe) in battle against one another with the possibility that both could get knocked out. Believe it or not, Calzaghe can get KO'ed. In fact, it almost happened in his last fight in the opening round.
Tarver is an exceptional puncher and has KO'ed several fighters who hadn't been KO'ed previously. I understand Calzaghe just got a split decision victory and everyone is happy, but the idea that Calzaghe's victory over 43-year-old B-Hop makes him invincible, you might be surprised that he's not.Comment

Almost got KOed? Are you nuts? It was a flash knockdown helped by Joe being off balance and hopkins giving him a bit of a push. It was a real knockdown caused by a punch for sure but it's pretty far from being "nearly knocked out". "nearly knocked out" is struggling to beat the count. Joe was up by "Two".Believe it or not, Calzaghe can get KO'ed. In fact, it almost happened in his last fight in the opening round.Comment

I saw it as a straight right hand with Calzaghe coming in. It's the perfect way to fight a southpaw, but shame on Hopkins for thinking it'd work all night. Anyways, Calzaghe went down on the first flush punch of the fight; a younger Hopkins would have pounced on the advantage.Almost got KOed? Are you nuts? I don't know if he would. And he would suffer for it. Calzaghe comes alive at that point, if Hopkins had pushed the advantage he would likely have been knocked down himself.I saw it as a straight right hand with Calzaghe coming in. I don't recall the last time Calzaghe had actually scored a knockdown.
Calzaghe was very vulnerable in that first round. He hadn't adjusted to Hopkins' movement and ate several flush right hands in that round. If I recall properly, a nick had opened up on the bridge of his nose as well in the opening stanza.
The idea that Hopkins hadn't gotten to Calzaghe in the first is absurd.Comment

He wasn't anywhere near being KO'd by Hopkins. There's no point in fooling yourself. If he had stayed down for a 10 count, had shaky legs and wobbled around the ring, you might have a point. Fact is it was a flash knockdown, he didn't look hurt at all, legs were solid, no problem. Watch the fight again man, you overhyped that shot from Bernard. No chance? It's not his victory over Hopkins why I'm saying what I said, it's the fact he's been knocked down only 3 times in 18 years or more. He took massive right handers from Reid all night, from Eubank also, huge uppercuts from Kessler, and various other points in his career. Not once did he look like getting KO'd.
It seems to me you haven't studied Calzaghe at all. Probably seen what, 3 fights? I've been watching him for probably about 11 years or so now, and following boxing in general since 1977. I haven't seen many better chins than Calzaghe's in that time.
PS: I still think that knockdown in the Hopkins fight wasn't a clean knockdown by any means. Nice shot, but 'nard rushes forward with his head as though he was gonna butt Calzaghe. That contributed to the reason why Calzaghe touched the canvas for a second. And literally about 1 second.
