He was impressive looking, but if you examine his record he fought total garbage at 175.

I actually thought Joppy would whip Trinidad to be honest, I didn't think he would handle 160lbs well and Joppy was no slouch. As Dwiens said, he only lost to Wright and Hopkins, and damn near everybody loses to those guys. You talk about 2 styles that you never want to face in boxing, that's them right there.

Trinidad was Bernard's crowning achievment, though the Tarver win was monumental as well.

Here's a question: How's Bernard's wins at Light Heavyweight stacking up? Surely the Tarver fight goes into the positive column. I would put Wright in the negative because Winky honestly was blown up pretty damn badly, but what about Calzaghe? Assuming he beats him just for conversation's sake. It's only 7lbs above where Joe normally fights, so I wouldn't consider him blown up at all.

For Hopkins, he was an after thought. Nobody really paid much attention to him until Trinidad moved up, then the discussion became how badly he was going to get beaten, and when he dismantled Tito, the spotlight finally got cast on him. No need to move up or down then, he was an overnight superstar who everybody wanted a piece of.

Plus he was always interested in chasing the title defense record, ever since the mid 90's, it's always been his goal.

I think when they originally signed in 2002 it would have been a better fight.

Even now Hopkins is one of my favorate fighters not due to his style but how can you not like the guy hes great entertainment and says everything wqith a big cheesy grin. I do think Calzaghe will demolish him, Hopkins will run and try to time the right fall behind then trench it but that Calzaghe workrate is a killer for anyone and Hopkins does take time off in every fight.

Make sure you online the 19th it will be brown pants time for fans of either fighter.

Should he beat Calzaghe he would have beaten the liniar champ Tarver, Wright and Calzaghe B2B that honestly stacks up to Jones whole reign at 175, imo of course.

If Hopkins wins at 43yo with what hes done those three wins B2B he would in my eyes become P4P1.

I'd put Winky in the positive column too. Even if Winky was a bit blown up (though Hopkins had to lose 5 pounds too) Hopkins still beat Winky pretty convincingly I thought and that's hard to do.

Call me crazy. I thought Winky won that one. I didn't see it being convincing as most did.

Then again, I also thought Barrera had some game in the Marquez fight, and it is pretty universally recognized that Barrera got his ass kicked that night.

I had that fight close Winky landed more but Hopkins landed bigger.

It does bring me back and i quote: "Ive sparred 50rds with Winky for this fight he brings nothing to the table i havent seen before, Winky told me i handled him well and i will beat any Southpaw i fight at 168 or 175 that gives me a real boost i know i will knock him out" - Jeff Lacy July 2006

I thought Barrera had game, but I thought Hopkins won the taylor fights so are we even haha?

But nah, each time I watch it I score it 116-112 for Hopkins. Winky does well with the agression, but he misses a lot with it and Hopkins does really well with his counters. Round 2 in that fight is a round that is like that. Most people scored it for Winky because of his agression, but I scored it for Hopkins because he lands some good shots here and there and is making Winky miss. Though Winky's agression did get to Hopkins at times. Round 3 is a round usually scored for Hopkins, but I scored it for Winky.

Strange I guess, but I still thought it was clear. At worst I could see a draw, but I can't really see Winky winning that fight.
