Margarito would have a lot more trouble with Floyds foot speed, hand speed and accuracy. The hit and run game would be in full effect, Tony couldn't deal with that.

Margarito matches up well with Cotto because he's facing significantly less of that. Cotto will engage more and will be FORCED to engage more because he doesn't possess some of the same gifts that Mayweather possesses.

Because of these things, whether they are true or untrue, I think many would still want Cotto/Mayweather to happen. Margarito would have earned his right to fight him though.

I have NO doubt that Cotto matches better than Margarito against Mayweather but i was just thinking what would happen if Margarito beats up Cotto like he did Cintron, Would people still want Cotto to go ahead and chase Mayweather or would people clamour for a Mayweather/Margarito fight.

I agree though that Mayweather would just potshot and stay away from margarito while using his handspeed to a UD because Margarito is just too slow for mayweather.

I agree with you Brotha everybody says that Margo can take a punch, But, he never been hit with a liver-shot from the
likes of someone like Cotto. I dont think he {margo} will last the whole 12rd's
with the purto Rican Warrior... N.Y.C.

I'm Mexican and I have to say I think Cotto would be the favorite as of right now. What has impressed me about Cotto is that he has a great jab.. It sets up everything he throws either upstairs or downstairs.

I would say Cotto by decision but he could stop Marg if he just outclasses him in the boxing department, really, really bad. Cuts could stop the fight or maybe Margarito takes too much punishment and can't continue.

I would say it's possible but not likely, Marg is a tough SOB, no doubt.

The way I would see Marg beating Cotto is by smothering Cotto and forcing him into a brawl. I don't think that the lack of speed really hurts Marg as much as people think, simply because marg smothers you and forces you into a tough situation. He hits you from odd angles and is non stop.

It will come down to one thing, how tough is Miguel Cotto. Cotto will get hit and will get hit to the body very hard. Cotto will have this guy on top of him all night and I don't think he can move and box enough to avoid getting hit from Margarito. The question is can he outbox him, counter punch him and withstand 12 rounds of pressure and intensity from Margarito.....

          Can't wait to find out.

I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility that Cotto lands some monstrous body shot in a bad area, but Margarito doesn't seem to have any "bad" areas. The guy comes to fight in great shape.

Cotto by close decision or Margarito by mid-late TKO are the smart bets.
I think Cotto's gonna stop him OG. His shorter & straighter punches will be the difference. He'll punch in between those wide ass hooks/uppercuts AM likes to throw. Cotto is pretty heavy handed & 12 rounds of that will be tough to stand up to. This is gonna be another Corrales/Castillo in the making I bet.

thats just plain and basic common sense
Margarito hasn't been stopped, but do you guys remember how many times he was hurt against Santos in the second fight? Santos could've KO'd him at least 4 times, when Margo was on ***** street, but Santos didn't press the action enough. He had Margarito doing the chicken dance once and all he did was lay on the ropes and chill. Margo hurt him at least twice as well, tho, so maybe he was just too cautious.

My point is that Margarito can be hurt. Santos has power, but his hands aren't as heavy as Cotto's. The accumulation of punches will be the difference. I think Cotto wins by UD, but his body work and counterpunching can result in Margarito being KO'd.

You think so? I agree with you about the compact, quicker punching being a huge advantage. I think he'll take him apart late in the fight, but Margarito just seems so durable.

It's gonna be a great fight though. It could certainly live up to Castillo/Corrales type action, maybe without all of the late theatrics though. That 10th round...man...Corrales was a warrior.
