    2) Shane one of the best at welterweight? I hate to break it to you, but this is 2008, not 2001.
I wouldn't call someone who started his career at 130 a natural welterweight. Besides, DLH is way past his prime. You think Mosley sucks? He beat DLH twice, has more significant wins in his last 5 years than DLH, and they're the same age.

Which welters are better than Mosley right now?

    Educate yourself...

Yes, the unifying factor will increase it somewhat, but how much? With a 24/7 by HBO, and constant publicity, this fight *might* get up to 700,000 buys. That's still 800,000 less than what Mayweather-Hatton pulled in worldwide. This would probably be a $13M payday for Floyd, and Cotto would make between $8-9M. Do you really think Floyd will take the fight for $13M? I don't know. After making as much as he did last year, on two fights alone, he's probably only looking for the huge paydays (like a rematch with Oscar). I believe I read on ESPN that Mayweather made almost $60M on his two fights last year. That's huge money! I don't think Floyd would get out of bed for less than $20M.

As for Tito, he's always had more of a following in PR and NY than Cotto. When was the last time you saw the governor declare a national holiday after a Cotto win? Tito got one after the Oscar victory. Also, his first retirement parade drew close to 1 million people out to the streets. Cotto doesn't get that kind of love.

This will easily match the buys he did with Hatton. It's all about promotion. "Mayweather's biggest challenge." "Biggest Welterweight fight since Tito/Oscar", etc.
      I do know America.

Just because ESPN touts a match doesn't mean the public will be out there ready to purchase it. Hatton was well known here and a big deal was made when he fought Castillo so that more Americans would pay attention to him.

You say it will easily match the buys PBF-Hatton did but I doubt 650,000 people in the UK will be buying this fight. Even if it matches the US sales, there is not enough money to give Floyd $20M and keep Miguel happy.

Steward is setting up Cintron to look better, nothing more nothing less. Cintron would have a real good shot at beating Cotto, if Torres had him just about out, imagine what the hardest puncher at 147 would do to him if he caught him. Of course Steward knows Cintron will never get a fight with Floyd, so why not talk up Miguel Cotto who his fighter will more than likely have a shot with. Steward is very biased, I dont take much out of his comments.

It ain't really a hold over fight, I mean supposedly Cotto will be fighting the Margarito/Cintron winner and Mayorga and someone else all this year, so this is just a fight to keep him busy and still get some exposure considering Gomez was on the Contender which aired on NBC so he has fans who aren't everyday boxing fans. This fight could be good, Gomez has been in the ring with bigger and stronger men his whole life and has managed to escape with a good record and the kid gots heart, I am looking for a WAR!!!! Gomez was on the contender fighting middleweights and supermiddleweights and still pulled off third place. Sergio Mora fights at middleweight after the contender while Peter Manfredo fought at Super Middleweight so he has given up size and has taken punches from bigger and stronger guys compared to himself!!!!

He beat some good competition and gave us some exciting fights, but to say he fought the best is a bit of an exaggeration.

As for Mayweather not fighting a true WW, he's right. However, he did fight a true Jr. Middleweight, so he gets a pass in my book.

Also, I don't think that Mayweather is that interested in fighting Cotto. Not because he's scared or because he thinks he'll lose (PBF is too ****y to think he'll ever lose), but because he can't make the same amount of money he made against Ricky and Oscar. If Arum is willing to give Floyd $20M, I'm sure Floyd would be more than happy to fight Cotto. Since that kind of paper isn't out there for Cotto, I doubt the fight ever takes place.
This guy is clearly not a nuthuger of either fighter so if you are new/lost look here. I tend to agree but i am a Floyd fan i don't hide it or act fake as some of these guys.

Tito got the parade not only because he defeated the most popular fighter in Latin America, but because Puerto Rico had just won the Miss Universe Pageant, and the governor at that time, Sila María Calderón, was very good at media stunts. Today, after people realized what she was about, she is the one that doesn't receive much love. In fact, police had escort her out of the most popular shopping mall in Puerto Rico because people were starting to mob her.
