Emanuel Steward talks about Cotto-Mayweather, Gómez

    http://www.elnuevodia.com/diario/not...n_pelea/389662

    Here is the translation:

"I don't like to talk about Mayweather, because he has yet to face a true welter, and I don't know if he ever will. On the other hand, Cotto faced the best at 140 and is now facing the best at 147. That's why he's my favorite."

    On Cotto-Gómez:

"He needs to stay active, and you have to remember that he closed 2007 with two very big, difficult fights, so he needs an easier fight, at least on paper. That's not wrong, and it's not something that will stop his momentum or affect his legacy. It will not be a bad fight. Cotto has to keep himself busy and the pressure is on him, since he's the big favorite"

    On Cotto:

"He's my favorite boxer right now."

This is nothing new!!! Only a blind person would know or think E.steward doesnt hate Mayweather, I cant really take his opinion on a fighter he admits to hating.

Or a deaf one, that's agreed. ^ Steward is one of the biggest Mayweather haters out there, and that's saying alot. It's getting old. Fast.

It's kind off odd that he doesn't even really hide it. Oh well, when Floyd beats on Cotto let's see what he has to say.

Idk, I agree with manny on some stuff but I do think its bull**** that they have to give cotto this bum Gomez just to hold him off till mayweather. People make a big fuss that he beat an old out of shape arturo gatti, but the fact that cotto should have to settle with someone who doesnt even deserve to be in the same ring as him is bs.

He could be fighting Mayweather, but Mayweather chose the big show instead.

Emanuel is right on the money and he doesn't hate Floyd he just thinks that he is overrated and a ***** and he is right on both fronts.

Yup, that's about right. Mayweather will hold off on fighting Cotto as long he can. Im willing to bet that the fight occurs 2010 at the EARLIEST if at all. No matter when it happens, I'll be happy to see Floyd get KTFO.

Listen, I'm as big of a Cotto fan as they come, but let's be honest, Cotto did not fight the best at 140. He never fought Hatton, Witter, Vivian Harris, or Mayweather, the other top 5 Jr. Welterweights while he was campaigning there (I'm not counting Gatti even though he was a title holder). He beat some good competition and gave us some exciting fights, but to say he fought the best is a bit of an exaggeration.

As for Mayweather not fighting a true WW, he's right. However, he did fight a true Jr. Middleweight, so he gets a pass in my book.

Also, I don't think that Mayweather is that interested in fighting Cotto. Not because he's scared or because he thinks he'll lose (PBF is too ****y to think he'll ever lose), but because he can't make the same amount of money he made against Ricky and Oscar. If Arum is willing to give Floyd $20M, I'm sure Floyd would be more than happy to fight Cotto. Since that kind of paper isn't out there for Cotto, I doubt the fight ever takes place.
