If he's moving up on the offchance of a rematch it's poor management. Far better to beat up the likes of Mandane, Froch and Taylor at SMW and bide his time to pick up the belts Calzaghe will vacate soon enough. I don't blame him for dropping the Miranda fight as, on the mismatch scale, that was a Manfredo.
Agreed. I don't think he wants to rematch Calzaghe though, unless its way down the line and Calzaghe is past it, he loses! Anyway, it isn't going to happen. What I think is that he realises, just like we do, that after Joe, he is the man in and around that weight. I think he's hoping, more or less, to do what Joe is doing, which is go up to LHW and show the so called stars a thing or two, thus cementing his own credentials. As I said, I don't think they'll fight him though.

He did lose to Calzaghe! Thats not a compliment either!

100% it's funny how i keep reading every1 saying he's the best smw out besides jc, and he'd rule the division??!!! under what basis??? the only elite fighter he's faced was jc, and he looked terrible. he'd rule the division??? yea, that's exactly why he decided to not fight miranda, and move up and become a paper champ!!! say what you want about jermaine taylor being overrated ( i couldn't agree more, by the way), but taylor only took tough fights, he fought the best competition (besides spinks), and those are the fighters that get love and respect. kessler is a nobody, till he beats somebody....LMAO...........

Kessler is a big super-middleweight, moving up will suit him undoubtedly but the good thing about the two divisions that no matter what champion or top contender you chose to elect to fight, its going to be a good fight, its pretty hard to legitimately pick an "easy" fight.

Well he had to do something drastic after running from miranda. One of you guys said it best, he wants to be a paper champ.

I was hoping we'd get to see some great fights at 168 this year.

              We could've had:
              Bute vs winner of Froch/Inkin
              Kessler vs Miranda
              RJJ vs Taylor
Mundine vs a top 10 guy

None of those fights would be that hard to arrange. The winners could face off. Calzaghe could fight Pavlik perhaps. If Pavlik wins he could fight the best of the above. But instead...no. Bute and Mundine want to defend against crap opposition. Kessler seems a bit confused. RJJ might be fighting someone from UFC. Not sure what Taylor has planned, heard it might Mayorga(yeah, you know, the welterweight).

I heard a rumour that, in the olden days, there was only one champion in each division, no alphabet belts, and the best fought the best. Is that true? It seems hard to imagine.

                Mikkel Kessler VS Danny Green

How good would this match up have been at light heavy, who would take the honours?

                What do others think?
