Mikkel Kessler Heading To Light Heavyweight?

An inside source tells BoxingScene.com that former super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler is looking at a possible move to light heavyweight division. Kessler had been scheduled to face Edison Miranda in a ten-round super middleweight contest on May 24 with Showtime televising, but after both sides reached an agreement for the fight - Kessler's camp pulled out without warning. What a surprise. One moment he's gonna fight Miranda, next he's gonna fight Mundine and now he moves to LHW. I'm confused......

I had a feeling this was going to happen when Miranda got cancelled.

Does he feel like he's accomplished all he can at super middleweight? I'm not sure...maybe Kessler doesn't see the Mundine fight as a real challenge; for whatever reason he's passing on the Miranda bout. Do we know if he's ever hinted at having problems making weight? He's not a devastating puncher at SMW, solid but not debilitating, so I'm not sure how moving up will help his odds at dominating.

About the weight issue I can add that MK recently said that he considered moving up OR down to get a lucrative fight, so it must be money rather than a neccesity.

Sounds like he's either being pulled around by the nosehairs by Palle, or at the other end of the scale, that no one's giving him what he needs most right now, sound career advice. He couldn't **** things up more for himself right now, if he tried...

Its sad. Kessler just has to pressure the WBA and they will enforce the mandatory. But hes looking for an easier option then both Mundine and Miranda, hes looking at Garay. Very sad.

                Hes to concerned about belts.

Yeah. At least it's not yet possible to see the smartness in a careermove to LHW. IMO he should've taken the Miranda-fight, knocked him out thereby getting a bigger name state-side. Then he would've got a title-shot vs. Mundine or Bute and then he would be on top of the world again.

What the plan is at LHW remains to be seen.

He definitely should have fought Miranda. Exciting matchup, and he would have won by KO, imo.
