Arum, Top Rank Hit Back at Mayweather Suit

As reported last week, Floyd Mayweather Jr. filed a lawsuit against his former promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, in a Las Vegas court. Mayweather claims that Arum still owes him money for pay-per-view fights against Arturo Gatti (2005) and Zab Judah (2006). He claims that Arum has refused to provide him with the accounting figures to estimate how much he's owed from each fight, which Mayweather says is 85% of Top Rank's revenue from the Gatti card and 80% from event with Judah. I smell major BS.

1. If he welcomes the lawsuit and wanted ti filed so he could sue why didn't he sue first?
2. It is irrelevant that people associated with Mayweather owe money or not. Sue them. It isn't Mayweather. Moot.
3. Release the accounting. Let everyone see.
4. The simple fact he admits to owing the money tells you what a gem Arum is.

Regardless of what you think of Mayweather I tend to believe him versus Arum due to the facts available.

I wonder what these die hard cotto fans would say if he lost to mayweather. Big fights dont happen over night, there's no money in that.

Its difficult for some people to understand plain english mate, Frankly i dont know why you bother explaining..I wouldnt, When this gets resolved one way or the other i hope that way Team Mayweather wouldnt have any excuse like(We dont want to work with Arum)..Both parties would be free to negiotate the Mayweather/Cotto fight, Kind of what happen with the Cotto..Mosley saga and Pacman..Barrera saga.

I agree they need to work it out. But it took Golden Boy and Top Rank about 3 or 4 years to begin working together. This process between Team Mayweather and Top Rank hasn't even lasted 2 years. So, it's relatively quick.

But like I said, I agree with you. I'm a Mayweather fan and believe that Arum did some really dumb and even racist things when he was promoting Mayweather. Still, this Mayweather-Cotto fight has to happen and I believe that these suits will ultimately lead to it happening.

Definitely i have NO doubt that the Mayweather/Cotto fight would happen but am glad this is the first step towards it, I know it might take time but i hope they resolve their differences, Arum his a scum he isnt any different from Don king..The only difference his King doesnt hide his devilish behaviour..Arum is a very conny person..too devious.

The Arum's and King's of the world for years took advantage of there contracted fighters. Without any oversight a lot of fighters eventually went on to retire penniless. These promoters, Arum being Harvard Educated, can't stand the thought of other fighters taking control of there own careers. What De La Hoya and Mayweather have been able to do is maximize there earning potential without needing a promotional outfit like Top Rank or DK Promotions. People ask why do these fighters take business fights instead of participating in meaningful match-ups that would help the sport. Ask guys like Larry Holmes and Ray Boom Boom Mancini who's blood was spilled in the ring but never truly compensated for.Would you fight for money or would you fight for legacy? Larry Holmes has a legacy and is essentially broke like many fighters of his generation.

Im a big Cotto fan, and also a big critic of Floyd. If Floyd were to agree to a fight with Cotto this year, i'll be completely honest with you, i can care less which fighter wins. Of course i'll be rooting for Cotto, but when it comes down to it, i just wanna see the fight. Saying your the best means nothing. Go out and prove it. If Floyd takes the fight and whoops on Cotto, my hat will go off to him.

If Cotto truly wants to fight the best then he should drop his sleezy ass promoter and handle his own career. then watch the matchups proceed. has anybody ever considered why some "top" fighters continue to use promoters? I think its 4 protection. me personally im not impressed by cotto. all strength and minimal skill. like most tr fighters. hence the dealings with arum. hope mm exposes this guy soon!
