I'd like to know what you mean exactly, when you say that Larry Holmes is "broke". I've seen and heard him a dozen times or more on TV over the years, and according to all that was said and understood, he was very wealthy, and there were several mentions if his owning "half of Easton, where he was born, grew up and still lived", with apartments blocks, businesses gyms and everything in between. I saw and heard him myself talking about his business interests about 2 years ago, whilst sitting in his office, or, as I heard, one of his offices. I don't know anything about Boom-Boom, except that he was an exceptionally nice guy, and comes over very well on TV where we should see him more often.

As reported last week, Floyd Mayweather Jr. filed a lawsuit against his former promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, in a Las Vegas court. Mayweather claims that Arum still owes him money for pay-per-view fights against Arturo Gatti (2005) and Zab Judah (2006). He claims that Arum has refused to provide him with the accounting figures to estimate how much he's owed from each fight, which Mayweather says is 85% of Top Rank's revenue from the Gatti card and 80% from event with Judah. Looks like Cotto will never get his chance to prove he is the Welterweight King.Comment

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Some people are never satisfied.
Get a life dude. You spent the whole day arguing with people over Floyd Mayweather's qualifications as a fighter. Do you do this often?Comment

To your point, Larry did indeed file for bankruptcy a few years ago. He was involved a few years prior to that embroiled in a lawsuit filed against DK Promotions. Whom he insisted still owed him back money while he was under contract. Now in comparison and to be fair to your point. Is he broke in the sense of how the middle class describes broke, then the answer is no. I am saying merely that he wasn't compensated for his work and was taken advantage of which eventually led to the bankruptcy filing. In comparison to the fighters today on scale I used the word broke for emphasis and contrast. My point specifically is that these promotional outfits suit a fighter's purpose early on in there careers. But for instance a guy like Kelly Pavlik, really doesn't need a promoter if he was aware of how to market himself correctly, I.E. network television. Cotto would be different in terms of marketing because he is mostly sold to the latino community or hard core boxing fans. But once his english gets better you can broaden his appeal and then perhaps he wouldn't need Arum.I'd like to know what you mean exactly, when you say that Larry Holmes is "broke". Make a celebration thread when you see him do something else.
It'll be a first here.
