How can anyone say Calzaghe would beat Pacquiao at equal weight when for one, Calzaghe has never fought anyone close to the skill level of Pacquiao, and second, he's never fought anyone with Pacquiao's speed or style. Even a great boxer like JMM struggles with Pacquiao and I don't think Calzaghe is anywhere near as good as JMM.
you want to find a supermiddleweight with the speed of a featherweight?
I have Joe at #2 with Pac at #3. P4P isn't who you've beat, it's how your skills compare to other fighters, regardless of weight. Some might say that you demonstrate your skills against your opposition, and that's true, but you can plainly see Joe has the skills to pay the bills. It's not easy defending your title 21 consecutive times.
Now, Pac is a close #3, tho. I don't argue with anyone who has him at #2, either, because, IMHO, they are very close. Pac has improved his defense and his right hand, which is a big factor to consider now. However, I did have Marquez winning the fight this weekend (by one point), so it's hard for me to justify having Pac over Joe when Pac squeaked by with a close decision win.
But to say that someone who doesn't have Pac at #2 doesn't know a thing about boxing is ridiculous.
p4p is about who you beat and less about skill. if it just had to do with skill, calzaghe isn't top 30 in my books. you're basing it on skill and you have Calzaghe at #2 above ivan calderon? c'mon, lets get serious man.
p4p is not about losses mate. It's not just skills too...
Its more about the level of opposition and beat them.
Pac moved many weigh classes while Joe is only at one division.
Joe's biggest win is against Kessler. Thats all.
I dont disagree with you mate, its about personal preference, I have never really been over impressed with fighters who jump up and down weight divisions to secure titles (Leonard v Lalonde springs to mind) I would rather a fighter secured his own divison before moving around but agree that Pac has fought and beaten some star fighters.
I would agree that Pac's resume is stronger than Calzaghe's even when you throw Eubank, Lacy and Kessler into the mix but Calzaghe is undefeated and as such has never been stopped, Pac has.
Has he fought a good super middleweight with speed? No...
Kessler is fast.
The only supermiddle with speed is Mundine. That fight was never on the cards. Would have been good.
The misconception is Joe ducked people, he hasn't.
Anyone who called Joe out got him.
Joe is kind of to blame he never called out anyone himself and until recently had a ****ty fan base.
If Joe had a lacy in his division sooner his career it would have been great but ho-hum supermiddleweight is a euro dominated division.
Seriosly how do you people think Joe could have got a fight with a prime Roy?........Joe was having **** fights against people like David Starie infront of 1000 people. It would not have been possible to make at all.
you can say the same thing about barrera, morales and marquez and look at what pacman did to them.
Plain and basic common sense. Pacquiao is a proven commodity. We know what he can do. Everything written about Calzaghe is speculation because the man has been hiding in his backyard for a decade.
