A little denial has helped many a fighter.

At least Hatton appears to still have his desire.

With a fair referee, the fight goes 12 rounds, hatton doesn't get knocked out, and mayweather wins.

      Been said a million times.

cortez " i'm fair but i'm firm", bull****!!! translation " i'm biased and firm about it "

i think, **** that, i know, hatton got the raw end of the deal in that fight.

there was a video made by someone on here on boxingscene about all the fouls that mayweather committed and how cortez just sat there and watched and let it happen, all the while he was blaming hatton and giving hatton warnings about any and all fouls, especially fouls that mayweather was committing, he was blaming hatton, WTF! that was some bull****.

either way, hatton does have a legit complaint about joe cortez, very legit!!!
good post brother, Cortez was terrible that night, not taking anything away from Floyd like Ricky said later "I would have done the same if I could get away with it". Jeez he used that elbow A LOT!!

Cortez has received criticism from fans of Ricky Hatton for his handling of Undefeated, the bout between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather Jr on December 8, 2007. Jim Watt, a former Scottish boxer, has publicly attacked Joe Cortez for his "deplorable" performance. The thought is that Cortez was overly intrusive, and when the fighters where in close, he was breaking up the action too quick and did not wait to see if the fighters were actually going to throw a punch or not; a scenario that would have suited Ricky Hatton. Supporters of Cortez have countered that Hatton's use of his head, his wrestling techniques and his "roughing" are all illegal moves in both the UK and the USA and that Hatton was forcing the fight to become "over-officiated". Cortez deducted Hatton a point in round 6 - the first of his professional career - for hitting on the back of the head. Some complain that Cortez failed to see Mayweather ducking and almost trying to lever himself through the ropes. Others observed Hatton "pushing" Mayweather through the ropes. Hatton responded by turning his back on Floyd on the resumption. Cortez supporters counter that the "rabbit punch" is illegal because it is a potentially lethal punch. Cortez, in a post fight interview, was quoted saying that Hatton's foul was "flagrant and intentional" and could have warranted a two point deduction had Mayweather been knocked down from the illegal blow and could have resulted in a disqualification of Hatton had Mayweather been unable to continue.

The su****ions of bias from English supporters was apparent, with sections of the crowd chanting "The referees a wanker" throughout some of the rounds. Their ill-feeling towards Cortez was further exacerbated by Cortez posing for photos with Mayweather just moments after the fight. These fans were apparently unaware that boxing officials worldwide typically hold up the hand of the winner of the bout and that Mayweather and Cortez were photographed together in the ring just prior to this traditional event. However, in a post fight interview, Cortez was seen posing for photos with countless smiling British fans.

Cortez counters such accusations of "over-intrusivness" by stating that those criticizing him were primarily British loyalists. He further claims that his actions were justified in that Hatton's "hit and hold" technique and "rabbit punching" is illegal.

Joe Cortez was also the official for the Hatton bout against Jose Luis Castillo -- a bout which Hatton won by a TKO. Cortez was widely regarded by fans worldwide for doing a fair job of officiating that bout . In addition, both Mayweather and Hatton expressed their approval of Cortez officiating their bout when he was first announced as the official chosen by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The Hatton corner did not file any complaint about Cortez's officiating with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. No official complaints by any party were filed with the commission.

          What's done is done.....case closed.
I think the problem is that refs have good nights and they have bad nights, anyone who doesn't thinnk Cortez did a bad job that night is a bit slow in the head, he spoiled a lot of rounds with breaks in the action and was utterly obtrusive throughout the fight in situations were it wasn't needed. plus he ****IN GOT IN THE WAY ALL NIGHT, I COULDN'T SEE THE FIGHTERS HALF THE TIME!!!

I'm embarrassed to be a Ricky Hatton fan, I just removed Hatton's pic from my sig.

Hatton got knocked out, Joe Cortez didn't help Money May with the KO.

lol you summed it up perfectly there mate.

But i dont think anyone is saying Hatton would of won, what we saying is he got the short straw and the referee was ****ing terible to say the least.

Besides if one of your fighters got stiffed like that you would all be crying like bitches.

Watch round 5, hattons best round when cortez DIDN'T interfere. Ricky dominated mayweather that round, he was going to win round 6 aswell as he landed more punches but got a point detucted. If it was a fairer ref, ricky wouldn't of got knocked down because he wouldn't of lost the plot trying to over-work mayweather. I predict with a different ref, ricky would of repeated round 5 and 6 (minus point detuction) and could of won on ud.
