Realize this, whenever you are talking about Hopkins these days, especially when you try to put his resume down, you better expect someone to bring up Calzaghe.

We have the ignorant Americans putting down Calzaghe's resume because they don't know any of the European names Calzaghe fought, then we have the ignorant Europeans putting down Hopkins' resume because they don't know any of the American names Hopkins fought.

I will give Calzaghe all of the credit he deserves for beating a 40 year old man.

This would've been a great, entertaining match-up with both fighters in their prime, such a shame it never happened. Now it will be a borefest.

Yea, both sides have their fair share of trolls, but the point I was trying to make is, this thread is about Hopkins' resume, it has nothing to do with Calzaghe, so there's no reason anyone should bring that up and say "Calzaghe is overrated" in a thread that doesn't have anything to do with him. You know what I'm saying?

I already tried to argue his point 'Hopkins is overrated'. I listed the opposition Hopkins has beaten and their accomplishments.

          He came back with this:

Popkins has a resume full of names that nobody knows.
Roy Jones and Taylor are well known but he lost to them.
Oscar, Tito, Winky are all naturally smaller than Popkins and they had no business fighting in his weight class.
          Popkins is overrated.
And I gave an example on how anyone could say Calzaghe's or pretty much every top fighter's resume is full of lists nobody knows.

Perhaps he doesn't know those names because he is unknowledgeable?

To be fair, It's not like he's the only one in this board that thinks B-Hop has gotten a lot of popularity beating smaller guys than him.

I'm not ready to put Popkins in a legend status like many people claim, not even close to a legend, he's a solid boxer who never got the chance to shine against top notch competition. Calzaghe on the other hand, he's undefeated and if retires undefeated he should be regarded higher than Popkins.

What 'top notch competition' has Calzaghe beaten?

Kessler, Lacy, Eubank & Reid? Many (Americans) consider those fighters B-class, unfairly so.

Hopkins' wins over Trinidad, Johnson, Wright, Tarver and De La Hoya are rated higher by many (Americans).

I would say they are quite even, with Hopkins having the edge right now but Calzage has a chance to change all that by beating Hopkins and the other top ranked LHW's.

Kessler, Lacy, Eubank, Reid are all legitimate super middleweights. I'd like to see Popkins against Kessler or Eubank.

Trinidad? He spent nearly 90% of his career fighting welter weights.
Johnson? He has like 100 losses.
Wright? Another naturally smaller boxer that Popkins barely beat.
Tarver? He's so inconsistent I can't take him that seriously.
Oscar? Started fighting at like super featherweight, where did Popkins start? He started his career at light heavyweight. See the difference between Popkins and his opposition?

I don't think he's overrated as a middleweight champion, but I think he's overrated as an older fighter. He stepped up at a very old age for boxing, so you have to give him credit for at least being competitive at that age. I think he is overrated now by anyone who thinks he will definitely beat Calz.
