Bernard Hopkins, when he was scheduled to face William Joppy in some silly unification bout (Joppy held the "Regular WBA Middleweight belt," which was some scam for the WBA to get sanctioning fees from more than one titlist), joked that he should hold a belt that looked different from Joppy's. He said anything, even a pink belt to show that his belt meant more or was different, just as his credentials to being champion. Hopkins beat the living piss out of Joppy from pillar to post.

In your estimation, did Joppy deserve to be called champion of the division alongside a superior fighter like Hopkins.

In that same vein, could Jones Jr., being all of 200 pounds and a clearly smaller fighter, could he have been called champion of the division alongside a physically superior, stronger fighter like Lennox Lewis?

In the case that your trying to make, a guy can run into a division, beat the least regarded titlist and walk away from the weight division as the champion. The case you make goes that Paul Williams was just as much a champion as was Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Do you believe that?

When the fans accept that there doesn't have to be one champion and the alphabet belts are the Word of God, then boxing is in trouble.

These are all opinion questions, PLEASE ANSWER THIS. How can a Fact be wrong?. If paul will williams was a champ he was a champ, whether he lost it after 1 fight or after 10 fights. His belt meant just as much as Floyd's and Miguel's. If youare a champ you are a champ. I love Floyd, and I consider him to be the WW champ. Am I right, no. Becaue there are other belts out there, and to be THE CHAMP you must have all of the belts.

this is just a ****** hate thread. I mean whats the point? does this topic really warrant the creation of a thread? ok so roy wasn't undisputed champ of the hw division. So what? He use to be a middleweight and he went up all the way to hw and captured a major hw title. That is absolutley amazing. Which by the way makes him a World Boxing Champ cuz it was a WBA title. Does that make him the #1 heavyweight? no. but that doesn't matter cuz he did something great and all you haters could do is find a bad side to it and pick on it. This goes for most of the boxing fans. It seems when you hate a certain boxer, it doesn't matter what he does, there will always be a way to twist things to make him look bad. Don't get me wrong, I understand this is a forum and its purpose is to discuss, but hating is a whole other category IMO and its very disrespectful to boxers who are achieving great things but are still being hated on for no real reason.

Roy coming up from middleweight and capturing a heavyweight title was impressive. I would never discredit that victory.

In that sense, I'm going to start the BSB (Bull**** Boxing) Heavyweight title, and I'll use it to hold my pants up. Then, I am the undisputed Bull**** Boxing Heavyweight Champion of the World, and I can go into bars and tell people that I am a heavyweight champion. ****, if Jose Sulaiman can say who the champion is, regardless of his credentials as the top guy, why can't I? Why is Jose Sulaiman's judgement any better than me or you?
            lol. Funny ****.

Like I said if it were Pavlik and Calz these guys would wait in line to be bukkake'ed by these 2. Oh but since its Roy, **** them. So if Pacquiao came up and beat DLH at 154 for a belt, would he not be the 154 lb champ? come on these guys are so ****in biased.

It's not so much that Roy became THE OR A Heavyweight champion. It's more that that a former middleweight champ went up and won a heavyweight title that makes it such a big accomplishment.

Let's see if these other middleweights of today or the future move up to heavyweight and win any title if they can.

This thread has become boring real fast. People are just repeating themselfs now.

                      Well

                      Well......

I don't think ANYONE is saying that RJJ was the Undisputed HW champion of the World....

BUT.....was he a champion of one of the belts? ONE of the organizations?
YES! IF RUIZ deserves ANY credit then RJJ deserves 10 times more!

RJJ deserves to be respected for what he did.
Dont forget he started his career fighting at 154 and BEAT
John Ruiz (who I hate) at 226!

Ruiz has been in with some good fighters Evander, golota,Valuev,Kirk Johnson.Rahman etc

If your not ready to tip you hat to RJJ for what he did at HW....your an idiot
