How can someone be a heavyweight champion? That's like saying George W. Bush is a president, and Hillary Clinton can be a president also.

There is only one heavyweight champion, that is the man in the division. How can you be the man in the division if you only fight one fight in the division against the number 3 contender and then bail on the division?

It means something to be the heavyweight champion, more than just picking up a belt and dipping. Don't invest too much into the title belts and alphabet soup. They're bad news.

Ibragimov is not a bum, he had a very successful amatuer career and won a silver medal in the olympics, only the great Felix Savon kept him from the gold.

The thread starter is making a point that Roy was not THE world heavyweight champ and he's right, he was simply a title holder, like Ibragimov or Maskaev.

WELL ACCORDING TO THE WBA HE WAS THE CHAMP. HE WAS THEIR CHAMP. NOW ACCORDING TO OTHER SANCTIONING BODIES, ROY WAS NOT THERI CHAMP THEY HAD THEIR OWN CHAMP WHICH MADE THEM THE"...."CHAMP OF WHAT EVER BODY YOU WANT TO PUT IN THERE.

        not THE

        not UNDISPUTED...

        A world heavyweight champion

        i agree
        Exactly, thread closed.

Whatever the hell you call it, it was an amazing accomplishment for a guy that won a title at 160 and came into the ring around 200 against a much bigger Ruiz.

how is there only one champion? according to Boxing their are numerous champions. WBA, IBF, WBC, WBO, IBO. The only time there a "THE" champ is when they unify ALL of the belts. Come on dawg, stop making my arguments for me, i dont need the help.

You've got to be putting us on and can't really be that thick. Or maybe you can. Either way, you should be able to differentiate between A world champ (John Ruiz, WBA belt holder) and THE world champ (Lennox Lewis, WBC, IBF, IBO, he won the WBA, but they stripped him, linear champ and Ring champ.)

It might sound funny, but I am saying the
the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

My point is this... this thread is hilarious I tell you why...

Because nobody in this entire FORUM think roy was

THE heavyweight champion of the world

Nobody believe he was the UNDISPUTED world heavyweight champion either..

But everyone WILL agree... that he DID win a world championship fight...

and he IS considered A former heavyweight world champion

NOBODYS SAYING HE WAS THE UNDISPUTED HW CHAMPION

If you go by the law of the land, or by the books, the only way you can be THE champ is by unifying all the belts.

People can have their opinion and say you are THE CHAMP, but by the books, and by the facts you are not THE CHAMP. You can be considered THE CHAMP, but they are not THE champ.
