One Thing I Noticed About White Champions

Unfortunately, most of the appeal of boxing is based on nationalistic pride. I was brought into boxing watch Chavez, Paez and Carbajal. You root for "OUR Guy." When I got into high school I started rooting for guys more based on style than where they were from and now I just appreciate anyone who is good regardless of style. But most people still just root for guys based on where they are from or their style of fighting. It's human nature.I agree to an extent. White fighters tend to get hyped a lot. A lot of white people start going crazy and act like he's unstoppable. I know a lot of white people who dont even really like boxing but if they see a fight they always want the white guy to win.
But it works both ways. Often people of color tend to discredit white fighters no matter what they do. If he beats a black or brown fighter, the black or brown fighter wasn't good anyway. When the white guy loses, then he's just hype. And GOD FORBID a white guy wins a close decision, forget it. The crying doesnt stop for months. I.e., Duddy v. Campas and Hatton v. Collazo. The puertoricans and mexicans still havent gotten over those two, claiming they were two of the worst robberies ever. Gimmie a ****in break.
So, it evens itself out. I just wish people would stop making such a big deal about race and just appreciate boxing.Comment

My favourite fighters is Ray leonard cause thats who i tried to model my style on & that is the type of style i like to watch ,a ring general who was a showman with blazing hand speed and terrific skills and good power ,a guy who can also fight when the chips are down
i have no extra insentive to be a Hatton fan because he is white or Joe Calzaghe
Pavlik is a working class Hero from a small town who has a big punch & he comes to fight ,he was the underdog who ripped the title away from the champ ,and he has the profile of a guy that has risen to the top through pure hardwork & dedication ,im not saying Jermian aint but Taylor obviously processes more technical ability that has made his path to the championship much easier to come by, we all know Ameteur Boxing is primarly about good skilled Technique its clear that Jermain was gonna excell as an Ameteur cause he pocesses those very tools ,yet Pavlik would be more suited to being a pro Boxer than an Ameteur cause of his style etc
this is the reason Taylor had an eaiser rise to the championship IMO cause he was an Olympian

it would'nt have anything to do with the fact Hatton and Pavlik come to fight and Hatton was exciting to watch pre Tzyu , Witter along with Taylor has given some of the most negative & drab performances seen by a world champion
Pavlik is deserving of the title Taylor was'nt he had chances to redeem himself against Ouma ,Spinks and it almost seemed like he did'nt want it enough
Maybe it is to much of a coincidence for some people to believe 2 World Champions can be so popular & white without there being a racial element ,is it aslo a coincidence they both have come foward aggresive styles as aposed to negative defensive boxing like WitterComment

No but I mean that's what I'm saying. More of America feels like they can relate to Pavlik than to Taylor. Maybe when Taylor was in the Olympics he was living out the American dream, but now he's just another multi-million dollar athlete.i agree to a certain extent

Pavlik on the other hand is still pretty humble and that's why you see articles on ESPN about how he couldn't bring himself to buy a $1,000 watch a few weeks ago. WTF!?! Who care, right? But I'm saying that **** appeals to a lot of people. It appeals to the people who can't understand why Floyd wearing $50,000 watch appeals to other people. Pavlik get all of the hype because the former group is much bigger than the later.Comment
