Remember how badly Oscar was beating Whitaker? A few months back someone posted a gif of Whitaker slipping a few punches, of course without throwing any back, and said look at Whitaker "owning" Oscar. You can't "own" someone in a fight without punching them
Couldnt agree more. The new standard today is that if you survive 12 rounds with aggressive fighter you win the fight. No longer the days of rewarding the agressive fighter causing damage. The Oscar Whitaker fight to me wasnt even close. Oscar by wide UD.

It wasn't even the worse robbery of Pernell's career. It WAS however a robbery and Whitaker deserved the win.

Right now I have watched the first 6 rounds, and I have to tell you... I think Chavez won 4 of them. 1, 2, 4 and 6. I do remember Pernell comes on pretty damn strong in the later rounds, but even if Chavez doesn't win another round, it would end up 116-112 on my card.

Now, I'm not the best judge in the world, or probably even in the upper half, but I can tell you that it means something when I see a brawler/swarmer win a round from a counterpunching slickster, because I usually see a slickster avoiding most of the incoming damage and returning some of his own, yet I still have Chavez winning 4 rounds.

But seriously... people act like this fight was a 12 round to 0 assbeating by Whitaker, and truth is, it wasn't. He clearly won. He clearly got screwed. It clearly was not even close to the worst robbery.

That fight is the reason I hated Chavez. I was glad to see Tszyu destroy him and end him.

As I recall,Sweet Pea won that fight with ease...

Chavez as great as he was in his prime,he really became somewhat of a ***** towards the end. After his gift against Whitaker,he was given another one against Frankie Randall.
Randall who had whipped his ass once already,in the second fight Chavez took the worse of a head butt, after conferring said..no mas,and they gave his ass the win.
My recollections of his last fights are of him bitching to the referees..

Go back to what Lampley said in the Trinidad fight about the Ledermans.

I thought Spinks won the Taylor fight.
