Remember how badly Oscar was beating Whitaker? A few months back someone posted a gif of Whitaker slipping a few punches, of course without throwing any back, and said look at Whitaker "owning" Oscar. You can't "own" someone in a fight without punching them
Good Karma coming your way, great post.

World Boxing Council Welterweight Title (1st defense of Whitaker)

      Referee: Joe Cortez

Judges scoring: Jack Woodruff (115-113 Whitaker), Mickey Vann (115-115), Franz Marti (115-115)

Weights: Whitaker 145 lbs, Chavez 142 lbs

      [edit] Prelude
      - In the early 1990s one of the fights brewing in the minds of boxing fans was Whitaker-Chavez. Both fighters were considered two of the sports most elite champions and both fighters were ranked within the top 5 pound for pound list. Whitaker was seen to be one slickest boxers at the time and Chavez was an undefeated fighter who had already won titles in three weight divisions. This bout marked Chavez's desire to win a title in a fourth weight class, a feat at this point that very few fighters had accomplished.

      [edit] The Fight
      - The bout turned out to be no easy task for Chavez. The first few rounds were relatively even but after the fourth round Whitaker's elusiveness and quickness seemed to be befuddling Chavez. Chavez showed signs of fatigue throughout the fight and had difficulty cutting off the ring and catching Whitaker. In addition, Chavez's punch output dropped severely. Furthurmore, Chavez world famous inside game was ineffective as Whitaker, not known for his inside game, was beating Chavez in the inside exchanges. Whitaker was not known for his punching power but did stun Chavez a few times in the fight with hard left hands. The fight was held in front of thousands of Chavez supporters in San Antonio but even they became dead silent as they started to see Whitaker take force and dominate Chavez with little trouble.

      [edit] Controversey
      - Before the scorecards were announced the Showtime television commentators were in unanimous agreement that Whitaker had won the bout and didn't even consider it to be a close contest. Just later, the scorecards were announced and the fight was declared a draw. This prompted some boos even among some of Chavez fans as they recognized that Whitaker was the true winner of the contest. Several members of the media, such as The Ring magazine and Sports Illustrated were disgusted with the decision. Later on several journalists complained of the fact that the WBC appointed the judges to the fight rather then the independent Texas Boxing & Wrestling Program. This promoted widespread calls of corruption for the world titles to banish this practice; however nothing was done and this practice is still in effect today. [/]
It should also be said in that same Magazine, the Europe judge said somthing like, "people forget how it is properly to score a fight!"

Am not even going to argue the fight, I dont care what anyone says this fight was a robbery, I dont care for either Whittker or Chavez but i care for fairness, Nothing would change the outcome anyway but to try and defend the decision is just too much for me to even try to argue it...Bye

Because i honestly belive because of fighters like Mayweather and Roy who are so popular especially to young fans, they then accept and belive that to box is too win, and only to ko is the only other way to win. Tell me you havn't noticed that the boxing fans of today are more lenient then they were before?

****, just look back at Delahoyas career. Remember when Delahoya would always smile coming into the ring since day one?!!!!! Well, even Larry Merchant would comment that he should stop that. And now today we have, Manny Pacquiao who comes in smilling and no one has a problem with it. Again, the fans are being more lienient.

To box is not to win and to brawl is not alway to win, But the fight i saw (Whitkker/Chavez) wasnt even close, I have seen many chavez fight and he beats any fighter today IMO but he didnt even deserve a DRAW on that performance he fight like something was wrong with him.

I thought Marquez won, He got KD 3 times in the first round then proceed to brawl and box his way against a very one-dimension fighter in Pacman that night.

A pacman who didnt have any plan B that night may i say.

From what I remember I don't think anyone had Chavez winning that fight and I'm talking about the boxing press.

It was one of the worst robberies cause it was a big fight, I've not see the fight in a long time, from what I remember I had Whitaker winning 9 or 10 rounds.
