Got you. And I agree. Floyd should fight Cotto and I hope that he does while both are still in their primes. That said, do you agree that Cotto needs the fight more than Mayweather for purposes of legacy? I'm not asking as a point of contention...just as clarification."But did you really not expect to take the rematch for the money?"
That is the part I was referring to... also him taking the rematch just shows that he is doing it for the money, and that the original fight wasn't for legacy, meaning he probably won't gain much legacy because of it.
Whether that is fair or not is a completely different issue.Comment

Agreed. Mayweather fighting and beating DLH again means nothing.Tito hadn't fought in almost 3 years.
Oscar was a 6-1 underdog against Hopkins.
Mosley was 35 years old.
Oscar is 35 and is 10 years past his peak (as #1 p4p back in 1998,) has had 2 fights in the last 3 years and has lost 3 (arguably 4) of his last 5 fights. Beating him once meant something, but beating him again clearly means nothing.Comment

In your hasty knee jerk reaction to defend Floyd, you missed my point. Im not critisizing him Im making a point as to why some may criticize him more than other fighters. And as you demontrated, Floyd fans dont want to understand peoples points they want to bash people who question Floyd. What is the "fact" that you are basing your criticism on?
It's easy to say you're using facts, but when you don't actually state any facts...well let's just say your argument loses strength when you don't use facts to support your theories on "fact based criticism."
Nice try though...Last edited by Crazylegs77; 01-29-2008, 09:55 PM.Comment

It honestly depends... straight up, to boost his career, Cotto really could use Mayweather on his resume.Got you. And I agree. However, since Floyd has set the bar so high that he expects to be GOAT, not fighting Cotto is an EXTREME detriment to his resume.
Because Floyd has set such high expectations for himself, I think he needs Cotto more than Cotto needs him, mostly because Cotto has so much time left, and Mayweather does not.Comment

Ok...
Let's see. When DLH fought Hopkins he might have had an opportunity to fight Trinidad. All signs indicate that he did, but I don't have concrete evidence. I'd say that was a much better legacy fight for him than getting KO'd by Hopkins.
If Trinidad would have been willing to really cut weight he probably could have fought DLH or Mosley sometime later this year instead of rushing into a Jones fight. Those fights, especially the Mosley fight, might not have gotten him $15 mil though.
Mosley could have fought Judah instead of Vargas. Don King offered him that fight and for almost as much as he offered Mayweather. Talk about legacy too. At the time Mosley could have fought Judah, Zab was the undisputed welterweight champion and hadn't even thought about signing to fight Baldomir. Mosley chose to fight Vargas instead in large part because it was worth more money. The rematch was ENTIRELY about the money.
Mayweather is not the only reputable boxer who puts money far ahead of legacy. He's just the only one who is consistently called on it.Comment

K...why are you on mayweather's balls? Are you paid by team Mayweather? Are you his personal ball washer? Do you shine his shoes?Ok...

May I ask what your affiliation with Team Mayweather is?
if you are a member...it's fine that you stick up for him.
But you aren't. (well that's just a hunch of mine).
And I got a hunch that is telling me that I want to see Cotto - Mayweather becase.....
...........wait for it...
*gasp* I'm a fan....of...............boxing.
Ya dig?Comment

Please research what DLH has done in the last 4.5 years and you will answer your own question.Tito Trinidad got a lot of credit for fighting Roy Jones even though it was a ****** idea. He got even more credit for winning 3 or 4 of the first 5 rounds.
Oscar De la Hoya got a ton of credit for losing the first 6 rounds against Bernard Hopkins by a very narrow margin and lasting until the 9th round before getting KO'd.
Shane Mosley got a lot of credit for KO'ing Fernando Vargas twice.
Jones was 39 as was Hopkins and Vargas was beyond shot...he was punch drunk BEFORE Mosley even got to him.
Now, I'm with the rest of you. I'd much rather see Mayweather fight Cotto. The DLH rematch isn't necessary, but did you really expect them not to try it again for the money?
But Floyd never had to move up beyond 135. He eats whatever he wants and still weighs in at 147. So, why does he not get his deserved credit for not only fighting a guy who is significantly bigger than him but also for shutting him down?
Deep down...you all know the answer. But I'm interested in seeing the excuses you folks come up with. You know you're just haters, but let's see what justifications you come up with.Comment

I agree with that and it is clearly unfair that other boxers get free passes when Floyd doesn't.Ok...

Mayweather-Bruseles is seen as an act against God, but Cotto-Gomez is a nice tune-up that is completely okay. I don't get that.Comment
