I hate repteating myself, so I copy and pasted my response to a similar thread.....

The answer, very simply, is "No."

It's all about money for Mayweather and he's letting it build to a crescendo....or however you spell it.

Leonard, or more specifically, Dundee, did the same thing with Hearns. He waited and waited until the hot water of public demand passed the rolling boil to near-explosive expectation and then.....SUPER-FIGHT....and, consequentially, super-bucks.

Mayweather-Cotto will happen. And after Floyd beats Miguel, the hunt will be on for the "next guy who could beat him".....probably Margarito; but he can't either.

Don't get me wrong, Cotto is a very talented fighter and has impressed me much in his last few....the Gomez victory not withstanding.....and he could, potentially defeat Mayweather.

....I just wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Either way, to suggest the Mayweather is "scared" of anyone is both expected and typical given his undefeated and arrogant, or "****y/confident" demeanor. However, just because it is to be expected....it doesn't make it tha truth.

Does this mean Mayweather is not 100% confident he can beat cotto. Also he hasn't beat the best welter weight tho.
I think all in all Floyd likes to dictate who he is going to fight... Because it seems that his detractors are always saying Floyd should fight this person or that person...Why should he fight who the people that hate him want him to fight... Why not fight who he wants to fight... I believe he is saying to Cotto, Mosley and Margarito... Make me want to fight you, do something that will put you on my radar... He has always wanted to fight De La hoya so he did it...Hatton talked all that jazz and got put on the radar, but what has Cotto done to deserve a fight against floyd really... Who has he beat, the same with Margarito... For example, Floyds last fight was against Hatton and De La Hoya before that... Cotto fought Gomez? and Mosley Margarito fought Cintron? and Williams (whom he lost too)... Who has everything to lose Floyd, who has everything to gain Cotto, and Margarito... So why should floyd fight them? Because of his legacy? Say what Legacy can't pay your bills, Money does and he has more money and legacy to lose than to gain by fighting either one of those fighters right now...

Mayweather understands that boxing is more than about winning. It's about entertaining and convincing the public the your next fight is unique in some way and presents some amount of risk to him real or media generated. Mayweather's people are geniuses at selling a fight to the public. He's concidered the best Welterweight in the world and yet hasn't beaten one of any substance. He avoids all the heavy hitters and fights Hatton who really isn't a welterweight and out points Dela Hoya whose better days are way behind him and hasn't beaten a legitimate ranked fighter in years but can put the cheeks in the seats. I still believe Mayweather would most likely outpoint Cotto but I just don't believe he'll risk it when the media will tout him as the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson while he pockets tens of millions in a re-match with Dela Hoya. He's now on the same senior curcuit as Hopkins, Trinadad, Dela Hoya and Mosley who will continue to fool the public fighting each other for big bucks while the real talent is left behind at least until they show signs of weakness then they'll all clamor for a fight
