lol, being street has nothing to do with intimidating your opponent. Trust me. Boxing is a science. Not a damn toughman contest.

There are many who are just tougher because all they are familiar with is being rough and being tough.

It's not imperative. However, when presented in a fighter's situation it can't be discredited as irrelevant.
You bring up some excellent points but I really have to disagree with your one argument that growing up in tougher environments does indeed make one psychologically tougher. If your argument were true then it would be accepted that people who grew up poor are psychologically tougher in all aspects of life. That is simply not the case. Some are, some aren’t. As you mentioned it is a case by case basis, period.

I would think that the people who grew up poor and tried to escape from that by beating other men senseless would be the tougher part of the poor category, don't you?

It is a case by case basis, and fighters are one specific case where being poor makes you hungry and tough.

No, it doesn't. I f you're a boxer , that stuff shouldn't scare you. Street fighting and boxing are 2 totally different things.

So you're saying people weren't intimidated by Tyson? Also, if it doesn't help in that, what does it help in? It surely doesn't help in boxing ability.

Excuse the over-generalization, if that was implied. However, of cases I have witnessed (I grew up in a suburb - upper middle.) and studied (psych. courses), it has significantly defined one's character.

Being street NEVER mattered. Being street tough, from the ******, the streets, etc etc.. a gang member, having been in prison, etc etc etc ETC ETC is all nonsense.

Do you think Ricardo Mayorga or Edison Miranda would be the fighter they are today if they had grown up in Buckingham Palace?

The fact that they dealt with rejection, and being poor and all that probably at least contributed to their "**** everyone" mindset. At least I would think so.

Being gangster doesn't matter though. Judah wasn't able to drive-by Baldomir to retain his welterweight championship after all.
