SSM is no more a top WW than Oscar or Hatton. Ring has him ranked because he fought 1 fight at the weight before Cotto.

Quit trying to distort facts, u know deep in yo heart there really is no huge difference

i know deep in my heart he fought one and dominated him (same guy that almost took Hattons head off when he "attempted" welter and went back down to jw)..

Shane had three at welter before the VArgas fights and came right back down to WW..he is properly ranked.

dont even get me started on Oscar Dela Part Time Fighter Hoya.

Oscar reached that status by being a poser... a lap dog for for the $. Cotto may not be into that little fake wide ass smile technique.Lookin like Garfield the cat! Good Mexican boy!
THis is about fighting... not a beauty pageant!?? WTF.

As for in the ring... Cotto could very well surpass DLH. TIme will speak.

I wont discredit Cotto in any way because he has proved that he belongs and is ready for a fight with Floyd, I like Cotto and I want him to fight FLoyd but i will say this IF Cotto fights Gomez, Cotto fans have to realize it is a step down something that is blasphemous on these boards, when Floyd does it. The same people who bash Floyd for not fighting the best in the division, are the same ones that are finding ways of justifying a Cotto Gomez fight.

he's never lost, he's exciting, he might be the best welterweight, he fights tough opposition and he's been in so many good fights. Basically all of his fights are good or dominating performances.

              Torres
              Quintana
              Judah
              Malinaggi
              Branco
              Abdulaev
              Corley
              Pinto

Mosel was probably the least entertaining fight I can remember him being in. So what grounds do you wish me to cricticize him on?

Its like you guys dont really want to listen or see the **** thats right infront of you. Why do you disregard valid counter arguments and keep spittin out the same **** over and over.

Normally, when discussing boxers and their careers, the only actual opinions that can be considered and respected are of pundits, analysts and hardcore boxing fans and let me tell you, the majority never gave them a chance. Floyd played it smart by choosing to fight the Welterweight Champion when the title was held by someone he and everyone with any knowledge of boxing knew he could beat. and Gatti? Really? Did you ever see Gatti fight before he faced off with Mayweather? What about Mitchell? MITCHELL! All these dudes could have been tune up fights for him.

So when someone says, "If Floyd were to do it, it would be travesty right?", as mentioned above, he HAS done it but they werent treated as tune ups, they were treated as headlining fights with predictable and an inevitable outcomes.

The funnier thing is that Floyd fans are crying "double standards" yet fail to acknowledge a certain fact or ignore it for the sake of their arguement.

This is a showcase fight to build anticipation for his fight with Margarito.

Now, why is that not being mentioned? What does it matter that Cotto is facing Gomez if he is facing a legitimate ex title holder anyway? Cotto likes to be active and I am very appreciative that he is one of those fighters that would like to fight more often because I get to see him fight again. So this notion that Cotto is just cherry picking is pretty null in void and just a way for Floyd stans to try to point out some hypocrisy that doesn't exists.

But let us discuss another interesting fact that Floyd stans are also ignoring, prolly on purpose.

If he faces of with Gomez and Margo this year, that means he has faced 8 fighters in 3 years.

What other elite fighter is doing this? Floyd certainly isn't. Bernard Hopkins certainly isnt. Jermaine Taylor didn't. Only one I can think of is Kelly Pavlik and HIS record doesn't hold as much weight as Cotto's relatively speaking.

So again, what's the big deal?

But what the threadstarter is trying to say is: If Cotto is on Floyd's level and truely a viable opponent, why is he fighting Gomez? Now i don't think Cotto is on Floyd's level so I don't have a huge uproar boiling inside asking "why Gomez". But with that said, is fighting Gomez getting u any closer to Floyd fight which u so surely desire. Don't u think beating and defeating titleholders and top notched comp will make your argument to fight Floyd so much stronger. i know for almost fact that fighting Gomez is not going to help u in search of Floyd. I mean u are either trying to stay active and improve your game or you are trying to get Floyd, which is it?
You think Baldomir proved to DLH that Mayweather was at his level? What a joke.
