Say what you want about Calzaghe, but at age 35 he fought and defeated the best, prime age opponent in his weight class. He could have been like Mayweather and avoided Kessler by moving up, and winning a title from the weakest light heavyweight titleholder at the time, Stipe Drews! But instead, he fought and defeated the best available opponent.

Why won't Mayweather fight a prime age top welterweight?
    What a ****ing joke!

I'll bump this thread when Mayweather signs the contract to fight Cotto at the end of this year. He doesn't call himself Money Mayweather for nothing and Cotto will bring in the biggest $$$ at the end of the day.
gatti would kill mayweather in his prime?

There is always going to be a challenger who the public is going to want to see face the pound 4 pound king. This is never going to change.
If Floyd beats Cotto then everyone could look to Paul Williams and say, "there's the guy that Floyd can't beat." And even if he went and beat him, and for instance even a very young challenger like say Andre Berto, if he has a couple sensational performances people are going to say that Floyd is scared if he doesn't fight him. It's a never-ending cycle. At what point do you say, enough?

And it's interesting that they are saying he'll wait a couple more years to fight a faded Mosley, when Shane turned down the fight with Floyd LAST YEAR. Some people are just idiots.

coming off a loss - Judah
past prime - De La Hoya

He will never face a prime, world-class welterweight like Cotto, or even Williams or Cintron, because he's not 100% sure he would defeat them!

Calzaghe faced and defeated the best prime, undefeated, world-class super middleweight in Mikkel Kessler. Why won't Floyd fight Cotto?

How is he fighting smaller guys when he's consistently moved up in weight his entire career? lmfao.

He fought as high as 154 pounds against DLH. That's ridiculous. If anyone is at a crutch and that was pointed out time in time out prior to the fight...........it was Floyd. Because of the fact he's fighting these guys North of his original best weight class in 135. He started off at 130.

Also it's great that you discredit Floyd for somehow having a reach advantage over opponents........and then at the same time praise the 6'2 MW Kessler. Haha that guy is a monster who belongs nowhere near 168.

well most of the elite boxer rarely face each other.

only in the 70s and 80s but that when boxing was big and had the money to make fight. when a lose is okay

I could say the same for Calzaghe, after all he is the man who is going up to LHW division and picked the 43-year old guy to fight against.
Yeah, but Hopkins is the top ranked LHW in the sport. Hatton was not even close to the top ranked WW.

Hatton was the top ranked light WW.

Hopkins got his LHW rank due to technicalities because he did beat the number 1 ranked LHW at the time but that's the only fight he has had at that weight (except that other fight 20 years ago).

I guess Hopkins beating Calzaghe doesn't mean anything because Calzaghe was only ranked number 1 in the SMW division and Hopkins is a LHW.

1% of Hatton fans is more than Margarito and Cottos fans.

look at the night how the ring is fulled. and you said it people came to see Hatton beat the best rather than Floyd.

and who is the top ranked fighter at WW? and have they fought each other?
