Its the same reason Ike Quartey doesnt have this huge african american following, you cant blame race on this one, if thats the case, why would Joe Mesi have a huge following out in Buffalo? Because hes a white american, whereas Vassily Jirov DOESNT.

I would claim that even if Calzaghe and Kessler were American there would be this apathy I'm alleging. It's reasonable, if we consider this a multi-factoral issue based on the reality that rarely, rarely do we have championship bouts with two White competitors and we know all the others have had a higher rating than this fight, and undoubtedly some of them featured two non-American combatants.

American Latinos didn't give a **** about this fight either - so I can see what you're saying. Maybe it was their absence that was really felt.. Who knows..

There was no interest in the fight because it was a european style fight, before watching it people knew it wasnt going to be a bell to bell war.

Yeah I agree Kessler was gee'd up too much and Joe beat him well but it still wasnt an exciting fight IMO.

Calzaghe is nobody in America...the average fan here believes he has built his sparkling record fighting nobodies at home.
And the other guy is simply a line in the newspaper.

I see what you mean through their heritage , never really considered that mate.
Maybe the true boxing fans that pay for fights are more concerned about the quality of fight theyre gonna see after shelling out hard earned dollars.

I disagree. I think to a white American, they'd worry about nationalism over anything else.

They'd rather a black American beat a white foreigner, ANY DAY of the week. Twice on Sundays.
