Ahhh man, all props to Mayweather. He fought a great fight. Nonetheless, it was a lot closer than I thought it would be, until the KO obviously.

But, my gripe here is as the thread suggests. Joe Cortez ruined what could've been a mighty f'ing good fight!

Apart from the ridiculous point deduction, which was not at all warranted, he broke them right at the point at which one of the guys (Hattons) style started to come into play. Not only that but if he was going to deduct points from Ricky, where in god's name was the deductions from Mayweather for the elbowing through the whole fight. I mean c'mon, if you're going to be involved that much, be consistent for f&*^'s sake. It ruined what was looking like it was going to be a hard fight for Mayweather. Instead it turned into a frustrating battle for Hatton against the ref half the time to the point where he got overly pissed off and made ****** mistakes because of a point deduction.

Now, I'm not saying he was ever going to win of course, but damn, some of you hardcore Mayweather fans must even admit it was looking like it could've been a brilliant hard fought battle. Instead it turned into a fight with the ****** 'man in blue' as much as anything. My prediction was still correct, which was a Mayweather TKO, but it was a few rounds earlier than I thought it would be.

But damn, I'm pissed off! I was expecting a whitewash by Mayweather and after the first few rounds I was excited for a hard fight. It was close and competitive and if the moron of a ref hadn't felt the need to interrupt every freakin' exchange right when they came together it would've been so much better!!! I'm still baffled at the fact that he took a point off Hatton and didn't take a point from Mayweather for the elbows. They were much more prominent than the point deduction from Hatton. It really could've been what no one thought it would be, which was a good exciting fight!

Possibly so. Cortez screwed the pooch.
But, it's done now. Frankly, I'm more interested in Floyd's announced resignation. In fact, I predicted it. We probably will never see Floyd v. Cotto, Forrest, Margarito, etc....the true welterweight competition. This announcement was actually more insightful in making an appraisal of Floyd than the fight itself.

Floyd will retire with his millions and make the claim that he's the "greatest of all time." How does that strike you?

I whole heartedly agree with you. Ricky Hatton made the fight much closer than I thought he would have been able too. Too bad Joe Cortez had to get involved.

Probably as well as Mayweather "struck" Hatton in the 9th and 10th.
Dios might of waved the peace flag. But don't think you Hattonites haven't been absolved of all the "Gayweather" talk.
You had it coming for a LONG time.

i'm happy cortez controlled hatton from all that mauling he does he's dirty thats why floyd began to fight as dirty as he was .hatton wants to make little comments suggesting that floyd was getting away with using his shoulder and elbows but he didn't get knocked out with an elbow or shoulder.
calzaghe is by far the best european fighter not hatton. hatton won 1 round imo and i think that round could of went to floyd too

I was surprised Hatton had been able to fight that way for as long
as he's been able to . I mean holding and huggng for such long periods
good thing Cortez did his job. If he was the ref when Tszyu fought
no way Tszyu would have lost ...

Hatton is more of a wrestler ...
we saw what a good boxer does against a wrestler

Well, let's just say Ricky wasn't in Britain tonight. What he was allowed to do there to Tszyu was a virtual crime. What goes around comes around. It came around tonight. So, from that perspective Hatton got what he deserved.

But, unfortunately Floyd didn't get what he deserved.

I cannot say that but for the ref, Hatton would have won. I cannot say that with confidence at all. Floyd looked great. Nevertheless, it would have been good to see those two go at it freely. Joe Cortez ******. It's that simple.

I never called Mayweather "Gayweather." My complaint about Floyd for the most part has been his tendency (in my view) to cherry pick opponents rather than fight the best. His statements after the fight confirmed it for me. To me, that was more insightful than the fight itself. Hell, Floyd was SUPPOSED to win tonight.

Floyd won tonight....and he did NOT "run." And, he was uncharacteristically classy after the fight. It was a good night for Floyd. A bad night for the sport.......ie....Cortez and judges.

                      Nope.
See, Ive seen you call Mayweather "Gayweather" before.
I've seen you call people that picked Mayweather for this fight "nutlickers".
                      Your just a HATER...
No credit for Mayweather BUSTING Hatton with a great shot, and had him looking at a turnbuckle for his troubles...
No. It's the refs, rings, and gloves fault.
If I didn't know better. That would make YOU the excuse man.
Don't argue the point dude. Your favoeurite fighter got KTFO .
