Does Hatton's Popularity Bother Floyd?

Forget Maths and let's stick with English for a second. The word popular implies a degree of affection and likability so by those standards Mayweather cannot possibly be more popular than Hatton.Comment

Popular can be hated....or loved.
Floyd is the FACE of boxing right now..some people dont know who the hell Ricky Hatton is in the US.Comment

He is more popular for a few reasons.
1. Boxers look up to him more
2. The disadvantaged look to him more
3. More people know who he is, hence, more people like him AND hate him
The people that like him simply don't represent the mainstream, since he doesn't either. Any gym across America you have people imitating his style, you have rap stars mentioning his name as part of their routine metaphors, you have most of Michigan alone (where it is very poor) on his back. The African American and the Hip Hop community support him by and large and these are the people he identifies with most and no one can say that I'm lying, so I don't understand why he would care at all. Especially seeing as how he's been there before with Gatti and Oscar, who are more popular than Ricky.
I promise you I don't know one person personally who knows Ricky Hatton and in contrast, I don't know one person personally who has never heard of or doesn't know Floyd Mayweather. I am being brutally honest.Comment

like i said "you're crazy as hell"! its clear that you're a mayweather hater and not a true fan of the sport. popularity is measured in numbers and appeal. i like both guys but to think hatton is more popular than mayweather is absurd.Comment

Funny ****.
Fans are fans. Any major sport has them.
Just take it easy on the generalizations.
I know some Mayweather "fans" that are some straight up criminals.
Just like I know there some hooligans pulling for Hatton.
Not everybody can be put into a box because who they think is going to win this fight.Comment

Wrong. Popularity is different from notoriety strictly speaking. And, I know alot of people who don't know who the hell Floyd is either. Contrary to what you may think, Floyd is not a household name. He's no Ali, Joe Louis, or even Tyson for that matter. Those are boxers known to the masses. Floyd is well known to the boxing public. That's about it.Comment

I thought Juan Diaz was the one with the Mexican fans.
..
Everybody always tries to add their own subjective rebuttal when someone else makes an observation. The question was, is Mayweather jealous of Hatton's "popularity". No, because Hatton isn't popular, he just has a cult following in England along with those in America who hate Floyd. The rest don't even know who he is and the fact still remains that every single individual that I'm still in contact with who I've asked or gathered info from, knows Mayweather while none know Hatton. If I'm lying I'm dying.Wrong. I live in a metropolitan area and know a lot of people as well.

he may not any of the names you mentioned but he is well on hs way to becoming a household name. if he continues to win and appear on latenight t.v , it will be hard not to know the name floyd mayweather jr. plain and simple he's more popular than hattonComment
