boxing and soccer are the only things going on here?? how ignorant are you.... we have football, rugby, cricket, golf and the list goes on, all of which are more mainstream than boxing over here. do some research before you spout such utter nonsense

Popular can be hated. That is a quite staggering statement. By no stretch of the English language can the word popular ever mean hated.

          3. More people know who he is, hence, more people like him AND hate him

The people that like him simply don't represent the mainstream, since he doesn't either. Any gym across America you have people imitating his style, you have rap stars mentioning his name as part of their routine metaphors, you have most of Michigan alone (where it is very poor) on his back. The African American and the Hip Hop community support him by and large and these are the people he identifies with most and no one can say that I'm lying, so I don't understand why he would care at all. Especially seeing as how he's been there before with Gatti and Oscar, who are more popular than Ricky.

I promise you I don't know one person personally who knows Ricky Hatton and in contrast, I don't know one person personally who has never heard of or doesn't know Floyd Mayweather. I am being brutally honest.
I stopped reading after "the disadvantaged look up to him more'' because I figured if you were prepared to make bold statements like that then the rest of your post would probably be unsubstantiated rubbish as well.

You're clutching at straws now. Don't ever confuse fame and popularity.

Hatton could have filled the arena in Vegas with fans from Manchester alone. Floyd wouldnt get 100 people to follow
Mate get your head out of your ass , the popularity of this fight is for the matchup , its not for Hatton its not for Floyd its for both , Floyd is in a position to choose the biggest gate fights out there , this is his second really big gig , the first with Oscar wasnt as big as it was because it had Oscar in it , it was because Floyd was in it too , again the match up , if Floyd fought Cotto next you will have the same all over again .

You guys are always playing mines bigger than yours , it dont matter , only the fight matters but at least give both the respect they deserve for thier part in making it happen as its a joint venture .

I thought I had seen and heard it all but each week on here it gets more absurd. I'm waiting for the inevitable post telling me that Ricky Hatton is in fact black and just looks a bit white sometimes because of the light.

"fatton looks white because of all the fried eggs he eats". but seriously how can people suggest that being popular can include being hated, its a joke. Floyd is more known because of his CAREER exposure on HBO to 5 times the popluation britain has. i guarantee that if ricky had that exposure he would be a mega star. like someone said in a previous post ricky is more popular than floyd per capita

A concept like that will be well and truly lost on these brain surgeons.
