Well, it's the MAN that makes the belt, isn't it? I mean, Junior Witter isn't THE MAN at 140 just because he's got the WBC, is he? And people tend to forget that Hopkins was only a UNIFIED champ for TEN fights. Including the one he LOST.

Please, The Blow's resume ain't GREAT, but let's not pretend that BoreHard's was a gleaming ***el of the HOF, either.

I think this fight would make more money if it were in wales, give hopkins his purse split but joe can have the majority of the gate. Even in the U.S I think Joe Cal could be a decent draw. Hattons done all right here I don't see why Joe can't. Hopkins just needs to realize that alot of people could care less about him. He has a lot of fans but they don't seem to want to fork out the money to see his boring style. People know Joe is going to make an exciting fight so they pay to see him.

That's true, there are many parallels to be made about both fighters careers.

Hopkins in the end did have and win some great fights but he took his time, as has Calzaghe.

I think the fact that Hopkins LOST - twice - and then ****ed off out of the division hasn't done him too many favours.

Though to be fair, I had him winning the first Taylor bout.

              WBO fighters fight WBO fighters
              IBF fighters fight IBF fighters
WBA fighters fight WBA fighters ect

If the fighters in the WBA rankings are under par with the WBO fighters then the WBA champ has only proved that he can beat under par fighters until he steps out and pays the fees to fight someone who is not ranked by them.

I have your vague take on that, and I agree to an extent, but nothing's black and white. The Blow fought many former WBC/WBA/IBF world champions.

And again, it comes down to the point that most of BoreHard's competition wasn't worth a **** either.

Calzaghe Turns Down Hopkins Fight Offer

According to a report in IC Wales, undisputed super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe claims that Golden Boy Promotions offered him a fight with recognized light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins, which he turned down because the offer was "less" than what he made for his November unification clash with Mikkel Kessler. True, true.
Yeah I think well it is clear that Calz is above what most of the supermiddle weight class is anyway.

He's in the same boat as Hopkins was as a middleweight until Taylor and Pavlic showed up in that respect.
