for people who say that boxing isnt about knockouts

I think you'll find every one of those fighters has been mentioned for FOTY honors. Didn't win but were all in the top heap. Bhop against Trinidad: Brilliant fight with both amazing technical skills and savage fighting. If you don't dig this fight, you can't be helped. Winky/Taylor draw. Floyd against Castillo 1, N'Dou, Corley all very action packed fights. If you haven't seen them, go ou and find them. Guaranteed you'll like them. Spinks in aforementioned fight with Judah. Hopkins earlier fights were actually all exciting. He just got known at a bad time. His fights with Echols, Johnson, etc were great fights. Well worth watching.
You make it out like all I want to see is defense and that will win the fight. Read my post again carefully. All my favourite fighters mix great offense with just as great defense. As you yourself mentioned, if you can make someone miss you and then counter them why would you ever willingly take a punch to give one when you can make a guy miss then counter with a shot that will not only be more powerful and balanced but you don't run the risk of getting KO'ed just to show you're tough. It simply doesn't make sense. Getting hit doesn't increase your manliness. If you're in the ring fighting professionally, you're a seriously tough individual. That can't be disputed and if you dispute that you have never been in.
Check out another fight that mixes superb defense with incredible offensive skills. Michael Nunn vs James Toney. Brilliant fight!
I can't stand to watch a fighter throw one punch and then skip around the ring, then throw one more punch then skip away with the other guy following. You're right, it's boring. But thats not what I call great defense...or great offense. Thats just staying out of range. It has it's place (hopefully not too much). Defense for me means blocking, slipping, ducking, leaning, parrying etc. and when it is called for lateral movement should always be employed. Just not to the point of DLH in the last three rounds with Trinidad.Comment

Well boxing really isn't about knockouts, it's about hitting and not getting hit, simple as that, don't get me wrong though, everything you said makes sense and I 100% agree with you, I hate watching those slick, boring tactical fights.how come every year the fight of the year is a fight where there is a toe to toe war and alot of knockdowns??? has there ever been a boxing match between two slick fighters where there was no knockdowns?? NO!!!!
no one remembers the technical boxing matches because there boring. no one remembers any fights of willie pep because he is a boring fighter. gatti is a bum but he is a true warrior and he will be remembered for the great action fights. cory spinks is a better fighter than gatti but no one will remember him because he had pillows for fists and he ran like a coward. boxing is all about the knockouts and the fans on boxing scene should respect the true warriors who may not have the best record or the most belts but they are peoples champions giving the fans excitement and knockouts.

B-Hop and Winky have:
Bhop vs Trinidad was nominated for 2001 fight of the year by ring magazine
Winky vs Vargas was nominted by ring magazine in 1999
Winky vs Mosley was nominated by ring magazine in 2004
Winky vs Taylor was also a very exciting fight in 2006...Comment

Not every tactical fight is boring. Watch a Barrera/Marquez fight, they are not brawling other than for portions of the fight(same with something like a Marquez/Vasquez fight) but are very technical and calculating, they are just more offensive, but show great poise, economics, and boxing skill.
A cory Spinks type fighter is boring, a Whitaker or prime Mayweather is not.Comment

Exactly. Marquez and a prime Barrera are proof that you can be technical, and still be entertaining. I'd rather have a root-canal than watch spinks prance around the ring for 12rnds. Cant comment too much on Pernell because i havent seen many of his fights. Floyd was exciting to watch at the lower weight classes. His last 2 performances were pretty boring.Comment

I think the thread starter just mis-worded the thread title. What he meant was that boxing is about trying to take your opponent out via KO. Not neccasarily that boxing is ONLY about the KO. For example: Tyson got in the ring with the intentions of taking his opponents f'ing head off. Cory Spinks on the other hand, gets in the ring with the intentions of staying out of harms way, while throwing light love taps to try and outpoint his opponent.Comment
