for people who say that boxing isnt about knockouts

Boxing is about the skill of fighting, not knockouts. U can watch two drunken tramps beat the **** out of each other, or two skilled boxers out think and out smart each other?

The fact that Floyd Mayweather is regarded the best fighter in the world and this board talks about nothing but him shows u that boxing isnt just about toe to toe battles.

i think what threadstarter is trying to say is that for the fight to be exciting, the fighters dont have to come out swinging wildly untill a lucky punch can be landed. an exciting fight can be made by fighters who box AND take risks. just look at the Marquez/Pacquiao fight or the Marquez/Vazquez fights. are you really going to sit there on your computer and claim that these fights were all out skill-less slugwars without any drop of boxing present? of course not. this notion that only unskilled fighters brawl is one of the most ignorant cliches on this forum. you seem to forget Hearns and Hagler and even Ali. They ALL displayed great boxing ability with power and pride.

Sure. If your content with that. If I just wanted to see strategical moves made with little or harmless damage, I'd watch my grandpa and my uncle play chess.

Really? Why is the fighter even fighting on TV then? How is it that he's being paid for the fight? I know not ONE sport where it is able to operate without fans. This is not to say that the fighter NEEDS to go all out to please the fan but there should always be a comprimise. There is always a way to provide an exciting fight without having to comprimise your game plan. Ali did it. He could have danced his way to victory in all of his fights without getting hit, but he wanted to show that he was worth the money he was paid and he is remembered for that. Leonard did it as well and we all know he had the boxing ability to steer clear from danger.

Okay I started reading some of the replys and jumped the gun on this one.
I wen't back a looked at what 'Viva' said and see that he wasn't telling us that the only good boxing is knockout boxing as some made it seem he was just giving credit to guys like Gatti who gave it their all.

I do disagree that no one remembers the Pep's and Whitaker's though and that they were always boring Pep is very much talked about and people still post highlights of Whitaker's zig zag moves.

It's just a style that you either love or you hate but it's all good it's all boxing, watch what ever you like.

Thats exactly right.It depends on what style you like. The KO boxer or the feather fisted light hitting, boxer type fighter.Each to their own.
