  • Pavlik is a good local club fighter, but he is not world class.

Personally I think he needs to fight in the UK or Europe in order to be considered a P4p fighter.

      • i agree, europe is the mecca of boxing, if that chump wont leave the safety of his back yard, he doesn`t deserve to be called a champion.

lol, since when has the Middleweight champion of the world been a "club" fighter? He ain't beating Calzaghe but he still ain't a club fighter.

            • Palvil is too slow.

I think a Kessler Pavlik fight would be great.

              **** old Hopkins and Jones.

              • Calzaghe would just walk straight through Pavlik the same way he has walked straight through everyone else who he has fought. Anybody who says "Kesslers power was overrated he couldnt even KO Andrade" are failing to appreciate the fact that Andrade is carved out of stone. He has one of the best, possibly even the best, chin in boxing today. Kessler KO'd many of his opponents, and actually knocked them down for the full count. Kessler is ranked top 5 P4P punchers in the world, and although Pavlik is also a consideration, he does not punch harder than Kessler (maybe as hard as, but defo not harder), and even after landing his biggest bombs on Joes jaw, Joe was going nowhere. Another factor here is Pavliks questionable chin and Joes massively underrated power. Joe holds back because his hands give out if he throws full force punches for 12 rounds, but Taylor demonstrated that a few half decent shots on target will KD Pavlik. Joe will land twice as many shots as Taylor did in the same time span and they *COULD* be considerably harder. If Pavlik does catch Joe and hurts him, Joe will do to him exactly what he did to Byron Mitchell: wait for him to come storming in looking for the stoppage, take a step to the side and take his head clean off. Add to that the fact Pavlik only knows one direction, forward, and Joe has the best movement at supper middle and its going to be nothing but a one sided affair I'm afraid, Calzaghe Lacy all over again.

                • Pavlik will get boxed silly by Calzaghe and maybe even stopped late...too easy to hit and he won't be able to bum-rush Joe C like he's done smaller men.

You couldn't be anymore wrong in pretty much everything you said.

This was the first time Calzaghe had been floored in his entire career, and upon returning to his feet at a count of 3, absolutely DESTROYED an over eager Mitchell, flooring him very hard before the ref called a stop to the contest just as Mitchell was about to lose his feet again. Heres the whole fight, sorry about the quality
Great clip! Calzaghe is a mongoose. The final stoppage may have been premature, but this clip shows Calzaghe at his most tenacious, no doubt.

Pavlik v. Calzaghe is an extremely interesting fight. Much more interesting than Calzaghe v. Hopkins, IMO. It's hard to bet against Calzaghe, but Pavlik has greater power than Kessler and Pavlik ALWAYS lands the bomb. Hmm. God, it's hard to call.
