Pavlik almost got KO'd against Taylor, and has yet to make one title defence.

Lets not go overboard just yet.

Calzaghe took some of Kesslers best shots and has only ever been down once in his career.
Kessler is probably the better boxer but his power is nowhere near to Pavlik's and this coming from a huge Kessler fan.

Being knocked down against Taylor is no shame but being knocked down by the feather fisted bum Kabary Salem is shame.

BTW styles make fights, I will pick Kessler over Pavlik and I will pick Pavlik over Calzaghe.

styles do make fights. i think joe has a style to make pavlik miss. missing a punch is very tiring and doing that for 12 rounds i cant see pavlik winning. also joe can pop abit when he needs to. he can ko or tko pavlik if pavlik is hurt. taylor was just not on ball he cudda won.

as for kessler beating pavlik. i think kessler si faster and has slightly less power. i think he can jab and box pavlik or ko him

      • At this point I wouldn't even fight Kelly if I were Joe. He's a 25 year old lion who throws bombs. He has the jab to push Joe back and shorten his activity.

And I don't think anyone at this point is gonna back up Kelly physically. I would favor Kelly to KO him. Joe took some good shots but Kelly has some of the best one, two's in the game. It's simple but it's very effective.

        • pavlik is so much more versatile that kessler it should go without saying. calzaghe left himself open in a lot of spots throughout the course of the fight that kessler was never able to take advantage of for whatever reasons. pavlik certainly would not allow himself to be completely outjabbed by calzaghe the way kessler did.

i think pavlik knocks either guy out if they fight, calzaghe would stand a good chance of possibly pulling a decision but no way in heaven or hell he could stop pavlik. kessler on the other hand would have a slight chance of pulling a knockout but virtually none of winning a 12 round decision.

Pavlik is not easy to outbox, he has one of the best jabs right now, the reason he won against Taylor was his jab.

Cal does not have the power to hurt Pavlik, Miranda didn't hurt Pavlik and it took Taylor 3 or 4 crisp punches to put him down. One thing I'm 100% sure is that Calzaghe will not be able to handle Pavlik's power if Pavliks lands a few punches like Kessler did againt him it will be goodnight, Pavlik is heavy handed, all it will take is one clean punch.

About 25 seconds before the end of the video, you see Mitchell struggle to steady himself on his feet. He sways so hard its almost like a comedy stagger. A few seconds after that, Calzaghe knocks him entirely across the ring and into the ropes, which is the only thing that keeps him up. He's taken about 5 solid shots in that time and never recovered from any of them. It was a fair stoppage.

calzaghe would tire and won't be able to get out of pavlik's aggression/power,
he could box but he would have to move all night same speed in/out and pavlik has long arms, if calzaghe wins is obvious by decision but if pavlk wins we all know not by decision but by tko or ko
              When has Calzaghe EVER tired?

Taylor was more accomplished then anybody Calzaghe ever faced. AND he was in his prime. Eubank is biggest name, but he was washed up.

Calzaghe would definetly come in as the favorite and its hard to disagree with that, but it wouldnt be big at all. This is a even fight as far as im concerned, but i highly doubt Calzaghe can use any of his skills going backwards, which is the direction he will most definetly be going in
Pavlick's victory over Taylor was a surprise. He was a reasonable underdog there. He hasnt consolidated it yet. He hasnt won the rematch. Going into the rematch its entirely possible that Taylor would still be favourite. However, Taylor's own handlers admitted that Taylor was simply not ready for/not on the same level as/not capable of beating Calzaghe.

So yeah, I think its fair to say Pavlick would be a pretty big underdog against Calzaghe.

calzaghes power is underated. he looekd bad in kesslers fight but he can punch. infact he looked very soft in kesslers fight.

kessler has a superb jab. joe does too. i think both can outbox him.

joe has a good chin but he woulnt take too many strong shots. that being said, joe is hard to hit. if pavlik msises a few he will tire like kessler.

calzaghe is never a true favourite for his fights against big names. althoguh i would feel calz won't get ko'd. i also feel that calzaghe is a lot faster than pavlik. at 168 pavlik may be slower or stronger we don't know. yet i have to put calzaghe infront ebcause calzaghe can box all night long to the 12th. he can also brawl when needed but he is more wiser these days. maybe as a boxer goes old they tend to ko less like some of the other aging fighters.

pavlik hasn't been to the 12th yet. if he doesnt get an early ko then he may find it hard at the end and then calz would go for the ko.

many tests to come if it happens. i mean calz maybe too old. pavlik may not be able to be as effiecient for 12. who knows

Im not talking small height wise, but he would have to move up in weight so he may not have as much power at the higher class. Joe would make him look like a slower version of Kessler.
