Loew: "Kelly Pavlik Would Knock Calzaghe Out"

Calz would be about a 2.5/1 favorite if they fought tomorrow at 168 and both were fresh. It might be 1.5/1 when it actually has a chance of happening. Depending on how bad Pavlik beats Jermain in the rematch, and how ugly Calzaghe's fight with Hopkins is. I definitely give Pavlik a punching chance to knock Calzaghe out. His chin has been great, but Kessler's power is overrated. He hit Andrade with everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink for 12 rounds and couldn't finish him. Even Joe himself said before the fight that he was not at all concerned with Kessler's power. Pavlik is a big time puncher, but he's got more than that. He's a little slow at times, but if you let up for one second, he throws that bomb that puts you out. All it takes is one punch from Pavlik to change the fight. Joe has shown he's vulnerable to being hit with a straight right hand, what Pavlik specializes in. This could be an ugly one for Joe, looking at it from an IMPARTIAL point of view.

Overall, Joe has the edge in this fight because of versatility, handspeed, and experience, but by sacrificing his defense for more offense, he puts himself in a position for Kelly to possibly change the fight.

i agree and also unlike Taylor Joe can box very well for the full 12 rounds i would pic cal to win a U.D over practicaly everyone at MW, SMW, LH at this point in time (i also thought that Befor the Kessler fight)

Kessler is great but I think Pavlik would KO him. Kessler is so upright and has so little head movement, I think it would be a matter of time before Kelly bashed him right down the middle with one of those sick rights.

As far as Calzaghe goes...He'd UK Pavlik as long as Pavlik did'nt get lucky.

I also don't think Taylor can beat Pavlik, Calzaghe or Kessler.

I think we can all agree that if it goes the distance then Calzaghe will win a very wide UD.

The question is can Pavlik knock out Calzaghe. Well, nobody's managed it so far and I struggle to see how a MW moving up is going to get the job done, especially one who is going to get outboxed and will be relying on one bingo punch doing the job.

Pavlik should concentrate on the MW division and developing his skills and legacy there. Sadly for him, Calzaghe will be long retired by the time Pavlik should be looking at moving up.

Kessler cannot fight effectively when he's forced to back up. Pavlik has never taken a backwards step in his life. Kessler is a sucker for straight punches. Pavlik does that as good as anyone. Kessler was hurt by Joe Calzaghe. Pavlik punches harder than Joe, and almost as often.

Pavlik flinched like an epileptic having a seizure during the early rounds of his MW fight with Taylor. Given that Kessler is a harder hitter, a better boxer and generally bigger I find that a strange analysis.

That temple shot early in the fight? That was luck. Jermain landed that same right hand again later in the fight, and Pavlik didn't budge an inch.

Also, Kessler's power is mediocre in reality. He hit Andrade with more bombs than GW dropped on Iraq, and he still couldn't finish the dude. He hit Joe with a ton of hard shots, and maybe, MAYBE one hurt him. Kessler does not have good power. All his knockouts came earlier in his career against **** Euro trash competition.

And finally, Kessler's square-up style would allow Pavlik to land his hard straights all night long. Calzaghe was poking his ass at will in the middle and late rounds. I've never seen a guy so tailor made for Pavlik's style. Face it guy, Pav would turn overrated Kessler into a corpse within 10 rounds.

he dose not throw almost as much puches as Joe and he is fairly slow i would pic both kessler and Joe to beat him

Joe knocks Pavlik silly. Kelly is decent but he would certainly not measure up to a true super middleweight puncher's power. And Calslappy is a punhcer.
