Joe is a bad style-match up for Hopkins. Bernard at this stage needs someone with little work out-put who he can out-tactic and out manouvere to a technically pleasing but aesthetically depressing victory. A Winky Wright for example.
Calzaghe is not that type of fighter. Tactically he has more sides to him that Hopkins, his work-rate and speed would trouble Hopkins and his defense is strong enough that it could easily neutralise what Hopkins had to offer offensively. If all else failed, Calzaghe could even swarm Hopkins offering wild flurries to combat Hopkin's swift counter-punching, take Hopkins (admittedly not particularly strong shots) coming in and probably stop a messy contest.
Calzaghe would make Hopkins look old.Comment

There's nothing spectactular about Calzaghe that makes me think otherwise. he's just a guy with tremendous stamina who throws boatloads of weak, point scoring punches. Hopkins would not mix it up with him, and instead bait him and make him fight his style of fight all night long. Add in some headbutts, hip punches, and crisp counter right hands and Hopkins would outpoint him.
If the fight is made official, I'm looking your way for a bet.
but then again his dad told him to jab and box.Comment

You can defeat Hopkins tactically. He does not find it as easy to neutralize offense of awkward fighters. Ones that are fast and throw from angles and who out-work him. Thats exactly what Calzaghe is.
Hopkins has not shown recently that he would be able to tame someone like Calzaghe. He has shown that he can scrap to a victory over plodding, ponderous fighters who he can control and who fail to adapt to Hopkins' gameplan. Calzaghe's strength is how he adapts.Comment

btw joe is very adaptable.
he fought a technicalk boxer of kessler and won.
he fought a dirty head butting, holding boxer like bika and won. not saying bika is world class but joe changed to a more defensive fighter.
he fought a bum of manfredo and went for the finish. althoguh his flurry missed a lot lol. i wanted the fight to go on but ah well. ref was a fool.
he fought a crap ashira with a broken hand and basically won with a jab. was a funny fight because joes more powerful left hand broke :/
he ebat a hyped up jeff lacy and was just pure offensive heaven. hard to find this fight on net because i guess frank warren is making money from dvd's. i loved it.
when joe got dropped by byron mitchel, he got up in the same round and ko'd him.
charles brewer was a war. good fight again.
omar sheika was a very good fight. both have fast hands.
basically watch jeff lacy, brewer, sheika and mitchel. good fights to see joe. also bika fight which was boring, but showed that joe can be a defensively good fighter.
please don';t judge soemone from one fight alone. you need to see their whole career but those fights i highlighted were good ones.Comment

Not many at all and in fact, has eaned him a place in the hall of fame after 20 title defenses and conquering another division.

Actually, Hopkins has problems with athletic fighters, not awkward fighters. Jermain is not that awkward. There are many more similarities between Taylor and Roy than either to Calzaghe, not to mention that Hops is undefeated against south paws. His movements off set their rhythm. Given his competition, I'd also say that he adapts better to unfamiliar circumstances. Joe would look like a human wind mill that keeps missing if he ever fought Hops.Comment
