I love Hopkins, not just as an accomplished future hall of famer from my hometown. But as the batty old fighter who, for some reason or another, can't admit to himself that he's on the decline. He always cracks me up, I'm sure he'll have some very funny quotes about a fight in Wales in the near future.

I share the same sentiment. I see many more holes in Calzaghe than I do Hopkins.. Good post.
I don't know what it is, but people around here are really holding Calzaghe in high regard. The same way they did after the Lacy fight. Lacy and Kessler are virtually the same fighter, with Kessler being a bit more experienced and accomplished. But they were both hyped up to be something I knew they weren't.

I had Lacy pegged as a one dimensional power puncher, and he was exposed as such. For months I had Kessler pegged as a one trick pony with power to spare and he was exposed as much.

The performance against Kessler was great but I think part of it is due to the fact that Kessler isn't great, despite the amount of hype about him on here for months prior to the fight.

kessler and lacy where actual supermiddleweights, not two blown up welters in oscar and tito.they posed less of a threat then joe's opponents

But by the same logic if Calzaghe did pull it off it would be because Bhop is to old ,got it just like Lacy was overated same as Kessler Eubank was over the hill & dominating a division for 10 years and still being undefeated is just another factor we should over look aswell i suppose

so basically Calzaghe cannot beat anyone and get recognition ,

I disagree strongly. Trinidad and De La Hoya, while blown up a bit in weight, were still both highly regarded pound-for-pound fighters who were expected to easily defeat Hopkins. Lacy and Kessler are equal to guys Hopkins defended his Middleweight title against in either Eastman or Johnson.

I think hopkins has a shot because he's slick and ducks and holds when punches are thrown...it's hard to hit him and he will get dirty with joe... he has a shot but i still think Joe's speed will give him trouble.

That's just my point, it will be a close fight. A lot of people are drunk on Calzaghe after he beat Kessler, but I see the fight much closer than that. I'm not sure if it's Joe love or Hopkins hate but if the fight ever goes off, a lot of people are going to be surprised at how close it is.

Joe is a bad style-match up for Hopkins. Bernard at this stage needs someone with little work out-put who he can out-tactic and out manouvere to a technically pleasing but aesthetically depressing victory. A Winky Wright for example.

Calzaghe is not that type of fighter. Tactically he has more sides to him that Hopkins, his work-rate and speed would trouble Hopkins and his defense is strong enough that it could easily neutralise what Hopkins had to offer offensively. If all else failed, Calzaghe could even swarm Hopkins offering wild flurries to combat Hopkin's swift counter-punching, take Hopkins (admittedly not particularly strong shots) coming in and probably stop a messy contest.

Calzaghe would make Hopkins look old.
