Hopkins will beat Calzaghe

There's nothing spectactular about Calzaghe that makes me think otherwise. he's just a guy with tremendous stamina who throws boatloads of weak, point scoring punches. Hopkins would not mix it up with him, and instead bait him and make him fight his style of fight all night long. Add in some headbutts, hip punches, and crisp counter right hands and Hopkins would outpoint him.
If the fight is made official, I'm looking your way for a bet.
This fight will get made too much$$$$$ not to.
Calzaghe is steaming to get to 175 and get a break from sucking down so Im pretty sure it will be there for the ring belt honors. Regardless of whether or not you like Hopkins or not his record against South paws, some of the best to lace em up I think, speaks for itself. His movements and ring smarts will force Joe to be the aggressor take counter punching away from him, His jab which he really counts on(remember Winky) will be neutralized and he will be forced into desperation mode. Calzaghe has fast hands but Hopkins is no slouch either. The kicker tho will be on the inside. A very intelligent comment Kessler made before and after the fight with Joe was his deeming Joe a "mad Spoiler" He clinches long enough to break your rhythm, gets off and gets out, repeat, repeat over and over again. On the inside Hopkins will rough Joe up, short punches, use of the head, wear down tactics that he has honed to an art since his age has forced him to move away from being so active. Notice that CAlzaghe is very similiar to Winky in that he uses his jab to setup everything, and he has moderate power. Understand I think Calzaghe has a respectable chance to win but he will have to be better than he was against Kessler and he will also likely have to travel away from home to fight, something that as trivial as it may be seems to be a factor in many many sports but especially in boxing. I expect to see Hopkins show up with a sense of how important this fight could be for his legacy and if there is one that motivates Hopkins its Legacy.Comment

I TOTALLY agree with the author of this thread.
No chance Calzaghe beats Hopkins. NONE.
Calzaghe makes far too many tactical errors.
Hopkins makes virtually none.
I've said it before I'll say it again; this will be a chess match.
You can't make mistakes with Bernard Hopkins and win. No how.Comment

Bernard is gonna use his jailhouse tactics to execute Joe into a what-did-i-get-myself-into type of scenario..it'll be a boring and ugly fight, if B-hop can dismantle a great defense, I can imagine what he can do vs. a great offense...
hopkins fights as if he's poisoned you in the early rounds thinking ur in control til you deteriorate in the 2nd half of the fight...Comment

Ya'll are placing too much emphasis on Hopkins' spoiling abilities. Calzaghe is an expert in spoiling too. I see Cal having an advantage because he's got fast sneaky offense. Hopkins' offense has detiorated to the point that it basically just consists of the lunge in right hand. Cal will further have the advantage of setting the pace. Hopkins is going to be all wore out by the 10th and then Calzaghe will dominate the rounds. IMO
Calzghe isn't a spoiler, he's a master Boxer.
And Joe's offense has deteriorated TOO.
Hopkins outworked Winky Wright in his last fight.

I thought about this fight last night. The bottom line is, I think Joe would have a lot of trouble beating Hopkins. Both of their styles are to **** up your rhythm, only Hopkins does it defensively and Calzaghe does it offensively, so to speak. They play their opponents and they do it superbly. They are masters of controling the tempo. The difference in this fight comes down to the fact that Joe is easy to hit and Bernard is not. Bernard wins his rounds by keeping the action to an absolute minimum. Calzaghe wins his by disrupting your flow with constant assault from all angles, which as a result, leaves himself open to get hit back. I see Bernard avoiding all exchanges, and looking to pot shoot Joe with right hands, then holding after every landed punch to allow the judges to digest the round in his favor. I see Bernard doing all his same old dirty ****; hitting on the hip, hitting behind the head, and with Joe being a southpaw, there will be at least one, possibly three or four hard headbutts landed on Joe's face. In the end, the victor will be the one who imposes their style on the fight. I can't see Bernard being willing to exchange with Joe, I just can't. He's evasive enough and uses the ring too well to get trapped into those exchanges. I really like Joe, but Bernard is wrong for him. You have to have KO power to beat Hopkins, at this point. If he's not afraid to taste your fist, he will have his way with you.
Hopkins UD Calzaghe.Comment
