b) I made the "make me shut up" statement because I wantd to illustrate to the idiot that it is ****** to tell a guy to shut up. Telling someone to shut up is sissy. Unless you can make them. And he couldn't. He's a fatass.
c) Cal can't expect to sit home and have a procession of guys come to Cardiff to fight him. That's unreasonable. The other guys have essentially had a round-robin over the past decade. And Joe was excluded. Hopkins, Toney, taylor, Wright, Jones and tarver fought each other. I have a sense of what's what. We can SPECULATE on who Cal would have beaten. But why should we devolve to speculation when there's a perfectly good ring at the Mandalay Bay.
d) You meant that Hopkins never called out Zag? Hop spent the past few years fighting top comp. Or at least big money fights. You can't fault him for not calling out a guy who wasn't even in his weight class when he is fighting for five and ten mill (not the TWO mil that Zag was getting).
I view it as Calzaghe's job to have pursued the bigger name/money/legacy guys.
As far as staying home. HE is from there, his opponents don't have to be. You think he should HAVE to do the travelling, and fight for less live fans and give his opponents that advantage? He's the champion, so I'd disagree with that. He made millions, packed a stadium and fought the best fighter at 168 othe than himself. There's no reason he should have to travel. If he was proving himself, that's one thing. He's essentially done that.
Remember, Hopkins IS THE ONE who backed out of their fight at the last minute. He said it was financial, and with Hopkins, I believe him. He's a tight businessman. BUT, that's not Calzaghe's fault, now is it?

Calzaghe will have to travel for Hopkins if he still wants that fight.
Lacy has traveled to fight him to prove who is the best.
Kessler traveled to his backyard to fight him to see who is the best.
Now it's time for Joe to do it for the first time of his career and leave the comforts of a big crowd cheering for him.
If he doesn't.........**** him.

It's his turn now.
How would it be if a Soccer team only played on their stadium in front of their fans only.
OR
A NBA team (LA Lakers for example) playing on their homecourt all 82 games including the playoffs enjoying the fans cheering them on.
Doesn't work that way. Hopkins doesn't have any kind of an advantage in the U.S.A like Calzaghe has back home. They can fight in NY in MSG or Las Vegas, Nevada or somewhere else.Last edited by Vladimir303; 11-04-2007, 01:48 AM.

Hopkins became the bigger name and when he moved up, he went to 175, without even considering Calzaghe, or the 168 division. You can say that Tarver was the money fight, but the better fight would have been with Joe. He would have been a bit younger, and would have gotten about the same money, especially if it was fought over there.

He could/should have come to the US and have a 4-fight spree like hatton has.
You guys might have missed it, but I gave Hatton credit for saying that he is coming to the US to take 2 or 3 fights before Mayweather. And guess what?
It is crazy for guys to go to Europe on a one-off basis when 1) those potential opponents had their own network deals here stateside, 2) Calzaghe had a slew of potential opponents in the US, and, 3) Calzaghe would have made MORE money here.
Nobody packed 'em in across the pond like Hatton did. And Ricky just found out that he is making MORE money here than he ever made from relying on that big gate.
I understand the big stadium thing. I went to Maracana stadium in Rio. But the money is on the broadcast.
BTW, History would have been alot kinder to Calzaghe with a Jones or Toney win than a Kessler win. True Story.
