That sleepy little bout between Hopkins and Wright? Generated 2x what Calzaghe's gate did tonite.

Hatton is getting his biggest payday. By far. Where? Why?
If Hatton fought Mayweather in the U.K. he'd get just as much money. Matter of fact, they'd get more. Because the live gate would be WAY more impressive. He's fighting in America to prove he can, and that he doesn't fear it. Bu the money is where the draw is. In the Hatton/Mayweather fight, you have big draws, no matter where it took place.

Duran and Leonard were big money fighters, so they fought where ever they wanted to. First fight was in Canada and it did MUCH more than fine for them. Same with Ali and Frazier, Ali and Foreman. Imagine THIS fight in England, where they've already had the experience of a big fight, and now to have the most important fight of the year aswell. THAT can fill a ****in' STADIUM and ahalf.

Hopkins and Wright got PPV revenue, by the way, and that's the ONLY reason it got more money. I bet you anything if this fight was on US and UK PPV, it would have outsold the Hopkins/Wright PPV. So, that's really a moot point.

America has NOTHING to do with the money this fight will make. I love America, but I love money, from any country. It is what it is.

But I think we'll have to agree to disagree, because this is getting to the point of speculation. I have a feeling Hopkins/Calzaghe happens in America, and I think it does very well. So, lets just hope Cotto loses now, so you can give me your points. Lol.

If, say, Mayweather vs Hatton was in the UK they could pack 100,000 people into an arena for a fight at 2am, and sell 400,000 PPVs in the United States and probably another 200,000 PPVs in the UK and make even more money. The beauty of pay-per-view is that the location of the fight doesn't matter, so America is not necessarily where the money is.

In fact the only reason fighters need to go to America is to build up enough interest to be able to fight for the big pay-per-views, because of the average American's unwarranted disdain of anything that doesn't come from within their borders.

Are you aware that GBP has contractual agreements with HBO? And HBO doesn't have the same broadcast rights in the UK? Thus, Time Warner would have to subordinate its rights to a foreign company.

Additionally, a UK fight takes place at 2am just so that it can be broadcast at a reasonable time on the East Coast. And it's STILL only 6pm in LA.

There are SEVERAL good reasons why a fight on US soil is preferable to a fight in Europe.

Are you aware that the reason that American fights don't care as much about the gate is because teh casinos actually PAY the promoters to stage their fights there? That offsets the shortfall in gate revenue from having it in a big arena.

For example, I would guess that the gate was 7 million dollars last night. An Oscar Delahoya fight has commanded 10 million dollars or more from the casinos.

If Mayweather and Hatton fought in the UK, the fight would do less here in the USA. You are a hardcore fan. You will watch the fight even if it is in Myanmar.

But hardcore fans only bring a fight about 250-300K. Above that number, you need to bring in the casual boxing fan and the non-fan. LOOK AT THE PPV HISTORY. Only crossover fighters do above 400K (20 mil revenue).

I think you are an absolute lunatic for bringing up Duran-Leonard. Was cable pervasive back then? THAT WAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BUSINESS MODEL. Why are you even talking about an era where we had (for you new yorkers) channels 2,4,5,7,9,11, and 13? And 41 and 47 for good people (latinos).

Are you also thinking of becoming a blacksmith?

A fight does more money in the USA.

                  1) do that math!! Jeezuss H Effin' Christ. Can you guys add?

                  2) Yes. Locations of PPVs DO matter. What time would you start the broadcast for a UK fight? How many undercard fights would you have for the American market's $50?
