Sugar ray Leonard had one soda commercial. hagler had one deodorant commercial. Oscar, for all of his mainstream appeal, has had zero endorsements.

Don't try to act like there was a long line of crossover stars, and then THIS generation dropped the ball.

This generation has sustained and GROWN the sport. Boxing is on TV every week. The Contender. ESPN CLassic. Friday Night Fights, Boxeo. etc.

We just had - BY FAR - the biggest event in the history of the sport.

I don't agree that the sport is dying.
Overstating? How am I overstating the problem.

We have freakin' Vargas and Mayorga fighting on a card. This is a supposed "superfight". We got Trinidad and Jones. Winky and Hopkins was forcefed to us.

A guy like Mannhy Pac SHOULD be a mainstream star. Floyd Mayweather SHOULD be a Mainstream Star. The talent is there. Stardom is not.

I am NOT so concerned with the lack of US born Stars. In the 70's Monzon, Duran and Arguello and others were big stars and they were not US Born fighters. At one point, I think only Ali, Danny Lopez and Carlos Palomino were US champs.

The REASON Manny and MAB and Morales were NOT mainstream stars, is becuase of the lack of TV exposure.

With TV, do you think that Arturo Gatti would NOT have been as big (popularity wise) as a Saad Muhammad or Boza Edwards? Not AS good, but as popular?

I beleive there ARE stars that have been in the sport from the last 7 years. The reason they are NOT stars (there is a diff between star and great BTW), is because of TV exposure.

And if you call the biggest event in the history of the sport (which it was, i'm certainly not denying that) a win for boxing. you are sadly mistaken. DLH was a 92 olympian and floyd 97 i believe.

and if you think a jag off like Floyd is going to save boxing you're dreaming. Is Floyd a great fighter? Absolutely.

Is Floyd a great fan favorite or a big draw? Absolutely not.

In his biggest fight, Gatti, do you think folks were buying PPV's because of Floyd? No ... It was Gatti that was the draw because he has always been user friendly & a true warrior who always gave it everything he had.

And this all stems from you raining on everyones parade when we are talking about zag - kess and it being a superfight. you disagree. Fine.

    but you're wrong.

Like the slap to Kesslers body ? You know the one that he admitted hurt him and it might of been over if that ****in ref didn't stop the action. Just curious if you idiots bashing Calzaghe are the same ones that were posting how good Kessler was and how he was going to knock Joe out. And now you say he was just a guy from Denmark lol what a ****in tool...

A buncha long rubbish that all led to dissing Floyd's drawing power. It's not about popularity it's about who sells and Floyd sells himself as the bad guy. As the guy people wanna see lose....and it works.

Btw.....Gatti never had a ppv before Floyd and it was his biggest payday.
            Judah.....same thing.

Toney hasn't beaten many fighters that I'd give a **** about, to be honest with you. And Hopkins, who's basically my favorite fighter, is STILL not willing to travel to fight. And why in the **** shoudl Calzaghe travel? He gets paid very well over there and fills stadiums. Not casinos, not arenas.. STADIUMS. Why the hell give that up? At the end of the day, the point of ANY sporting event is to put asses in seats and earn money. He does that. He beat the best 168 pounder, aside from himself and Hopkins NEVER called out Hopkins before this.

Your view of European fighters, even sinking to racial slurs and essentially asking someone online if they could "make you shut up" if there with you in person, really let people know you take this sport a bit too seriously. It's sad that a smart guy like you, lets things get to you, not to mention that you can't handle a fighter that you don't like getting credit.

Calzaghe essentially put on a Mayweather-esque performance against a young, prime, undefeated legitamite belt-holder. Only difference, he actually attempted to finish his man. And don't give me that level of opposition ****, because GREAT fighters don't **** with bull**** like that in the first place. You never saw Robinson give people a reason to think he wasn't trying to stop his man. Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Ali. They all looked for it, in a smart way but they looked for it.

You didn't get a rile out of me. I just hate, haters. And right now, that's what you seem like.
              a) The statement that calzaghe can stay home and make money runs counter to the assertions made by the majority of posters on this board. You can't say "to be the best, you have to beat the best" and then say " I have a sweet deal at home, i'll chill". Doesn't work that way.

              b) I made the "make me shut up" statement because I wantd to illustrate to the idiot that it is ****** to tell a guy to shut up. Telling someone to shut up is sissy. Unless you can make them. And he couldn't. He's a fatass.

              c) Cal can't expect to sit home and have a procession of guys come to Cardiff to fight him. That's unreasonable. The other guys have essentially had a round-robin over the past decade. And Joe was excluded. Hopkins, Toney, taylor, Wright, Jones and tarver fought each other. I have a sense of what's what. We can SPECULATE on who Cal would have beaten. But why should we devolve to speculation when there's a perfectly good ring at the Mandalay Bay.

              d) You meant that Hopkins never called out Zag? Hop spent the past few years fighting top comp. Or at least big money fights. You can't fault him for not calling out a guy who wasn't even in his weight class when he is fighting for five and ten mill (not the TWO mil that Zag was getting).

I view it as Calzaghe's job to have pursued the bigger name/money/legacy guys.

You said yourself the Champion doesn't go on a plane and travel.

                  Is Calzaghe a champion?

                  Thanks in advance.
