Maybe it isn't age that sapped his power-- We all know that power is the last thing to go. Maybe (just maybe) it was the level of competition.
So what was Roy's deal, then? He was the same age as Zag when he got knocked out by Tarver.

    • I love James, but his concentration, character, speed and motivation ain't nothing compared to Joe. He's just a tough mofo with great boxing ability and a hard-ass chin.

Have you ever been involved in sports? Serious question. At an elite level, also?

Joe protects his hands and fights best when he pulls his punches and/or throws short. Plus he has killed his body staying at 168. This isn't serious Kaynan. Eubank had an atg chin and couldn't take Cal's punches.

          • Let me preface my post by saying this: Calzaghe's performance in the middle to late rounds was incredible....

However, I was kinda dissapointed on how bad he looked in the 12th round. Kessler was obviously pressing as hard as he could and seemed to really take Joe outa his rythmn and make him look vulnerable. Did anyone else get this impression?...

              MRV,

              Guys age differently.

The fact that Hopkins looks great at 40+ and SRL and Ali were toast by 40 means what??

That is why we talk about fighters' "prime". Whatever that "prime" may have been.

              Vargas was done by 28.

No. Not at all. Joe clowned and stayed out of trouble. Kessler threw everything at him but did nothing to him. Joe won rounds 5-11, he deserved to take the last off.

Do you acknowledge that people age differently?

                  Jeezusss.

Yes, I am not going to buy a car to go on vacation.

But dontcha think HBO is feeling pretty good right now that they own The World Awaits?

Check this out: have you ever been at Circuit City or Best Buy and you see a Rolling Stones "best of" Cd ? And it's like $8.99? Cool!!

And then you look at the song list, and it doesn't have "satisfaction" or "Sympathy for the Devil", and you're like WTF?

Well, that's because the clearances were to high. Whoever owned the sonng would be charging too much money , so the cd producer couldn't afford to pay those licensing fees.

Similarly: when Sports Illustrated or Mayweather Enterprises or whoever wants to put out a career retrospective DVD of "Mayweather's Greatest Hits", guess who they will have to pay a licensing fee to? Time Warner.

That is why it is better to own these properties.

I can't just start printing New England Patriots or Real Madrid t-shirts in my basement. Not legally, at least. I don't own that trademark.

The World Awaits is a BIG Exception. We're talking about International fighters now where boxing has become more popular in countries like Mexico, UK, Canada, Philipinnes, Germany, Russia. HBO if they want money in those market they'll have to share some of the profits just like any other TV station going abroad to broadcast a sporting event.

                    • Boxing is more global now. While some in the US are speaking of it dying, more and more fights are taking place outside of the country....Japan, Thailand, the PI, Germany - the term WORLD CHAMPION doesn't necessarily mean that all fights need to take place in the US.

Times have changed, DIOS. We dont live in the stone age.
