We have a new exciting MW champion. He had to rain on that parade.

    This guy is demented.

Boxing is prosperous, and all this **** can talk about is that because the total revenue was only 7 million that it somehow diminishes all of his accomplishments.

    He's a spin job. A hype job.

    An overall loser.
    You'd like to believe that.

In truth, Teca, I'd put my education/job/income/physique up vs. yours. Just for grins. Ya know? I doubt you'd stack up.

I may not be the most rabid fan based on your definitions. I don't spring wood because some Brit (or some Yank, even) packed a stadium.

What do fight economics have to do with fans wanting the best possible fights? Are you even serious with that question?

The best fights are made or not made for money. Do you think Arum would rather see a competitive fight or make a couple of million dollars?

Why did "If it makes dolars, it makes sense" enter the fight fan's lexicon?

Side note: you comment on my intelligence (or lack thereof) alot. If I'm smart, it isn't worth mentioning. If I'm an idiot, then it DEFINITELY isn't worth mentioning.
I think that it's very ironic that you just quoted Floyd Mayweather, Jr....the second greatest businessman in boxing since Roy Jones, Jr. By the term "businessman" I mean...those who would rather fight tomato cans if they can make millions doing that instead of fighting real competition. Mike Tyson ushered in the era of the businessman first, boxer second. Roy refined that business plan. Floyd followed suit. This stuff has hurt boxing. The sooner the new era arrives where fighters come first and the businessman is shoved to the back, the better. If Hatton can turn the trick, a new page in boxing will have been turned. Boxing fans are ready, believe me.

      • This maybe true......................every single statement could be true....................

But where does it come into this fight?

Why does someone rebutting the (incorrect) statement someone made that the tickets only sold because they were selling cheap, spark a counter arguement about PPV numbers and all this unrelatedness about money made by UK and USA boxers?? Relation?

        Wasnt this thread about Calzaghe/Kessler?

....I mean I know you may not like either fighter. I have heard you say this a couple days ago. But dont rain on the parade man. 50,000 tuned in to see this fight. Boxing is prosperous....and we really have the boxing promoters to thank. they are putting together great fight cards and are finally competing against the UFC.
          Listen,

You guys are acting like bitches.

Dios said that it was a very good fight. Dios said that Cal deserves a top 4 P4P slot. Dirty Gomez said only positive things.

Stop guzzling Cal's spunk. It's not that serious, mijo.

Maybe you simply expect less than I do... or have a lower standard for an "epic" fight. The fight in the ring and on paper doesn't qualify as epic. There wasn't a lot of back and forth action (despite Kessler winning some rounds), no knockdowns, and the final scorecards weren't that close. Outside of the ring it was the SMW divions (lol), 2 undefeated fighteres w/ medicore wins, both of which seem like decent dudes.

Every time I ask why Hatton spent a decade fighting Freddie Pendleton, I'm told "well, Frank Warren..."

So, in order for us (you?) FANS to get the best fights, the fights must be deemed economicaly viable by 'the powers that be'.

Why wasn't Arum willing to put Cotto in with Floyd at 140? Because he would be risking "his" cash cows. Better to parallel-path them.

But now that he isn't on the FMJ revenue teat, he is dying to make that fight happen.

Why does Oscar get to cherry-pick his opponents? At the expense of more meaningful/competitive fights? Moolah.
Does a post like this not make you sound a little foolish for criticising Calzaghe for fighting Manfredo?

Wiley, excellent post man. And I mean that.

Boxing is a sport for the fans. Fans drive the live and pay per view gates. And fans want their champs to face the best out there. Other sports ARE different, but each year the cream rises to the top and the best teams face each other for the right to be called champion.

Imagine if Team sports were like boxing and the champ wasn't crowned every year and instead once a Superbowl title was won, the Colts only opted to play against the Browns.

Professional Team sports is a business too. But it does work out where the best does have to face the best or at least the team who my have knocked off the best.

Sitting on a title and ONLY playing out the risk/reward everytime out is not healthy for the sport.

                I repeat:
It is not healthy for the sport
                .

But I guess they are "good businessman" for what they do.

What a ****ing moron!!!!!I cant get over this.

Didn't Kostya Tszyu make a "business decision" in not giving Cool Vince Phillips a rematch?

If Floyd has been so detrimental to boxing, why do his fights sell so darned well? Why are you getting MORE boxing coverage on mainstream media outlets due to FMJ?

Note: before you try to lie, the search function works GREAT.

Im sorry Dios, but that comment right there was one of a desperate man. Its like when 2 guys are joking on eachother, and the guy who is losing resorts to saying "but your *****, i'll **** u up" Plus, what the hell does your education/job/income/etc have to do with the thread topic? Talk about being waaaaaaay off course here. For someone with all these GREAT qualities, u sure waste alot of time here being Floyd's hero.

But I was seriously turned off the sport for a couple years.

                      Toney - Johnson/Thadzie

Roy Jones fighting a bunch of chumps
DLH "winning" his fight with sturm...

I came to EXPECT shady decisions and poor matchmaking.

But not anymore. This sport has turned for the better. And for that i am grateful.
