Pavlik v Taylor is the most meaningful result of the year, but as a match up, it wasn't the most meaningful matchup. If Taylor won, it was just another title defense, he wouldn't have proved much.

That is not the case for Calzaghe v Kessler. They were fighting for the distinction of being recognized as the best in the division. Two undefeated champions at their peaks, with similar skill levels.
