In this fight (in my opinion) age doesnt play a factor. neither is at a age considered too young or too old.Pavlik: Taylor:
age: 25 28
height: 6' 2 1/2" 6' 1"
reach: 75" 74"
record: 31-0 28 kos 27-0 17 kos
KO %: 90% 62%
Stance: orthodox orthodox
Neither fighter has ever been knocked down.
Pavlik has the statistical edge.
Taylor has fought more reputable fighters.
Handspeed may slightly favor Taylor, but very close.
Taylor has a better jab. Pavlik has knockout power in both hands.
Pavlik has a proven chin of stone. Taylor's chin is untested.
Odds at fight time projected as 2-1 favoring Taylor (Hyena's projection).
Hyena's pick: Pavlik by KO/TKO.
Rationale: Taylor will eventually engage and lose a power contest.
pavlik has the obvious height advantage but wont use it very often in the fight. i predict him going inside looking to go to the body since i believe taylor is quite faster and slick-er (if thats a word). taylor SHOULD be fighting as the taller fighter (using his jab and speed to keep pavlik at bay for 12 rounds) but since he speaks of going toe to toe with him if he does that both will be content on staying on the inside (i think thats a mistake of taylor's part unless he knows something we really dont)
reach is basically even...one inch (if they fight correctly) wont be an issue.
the records and KO percentage favor pavlik but records and knockout percentages dont tell everything. im not saying taylor is just as powerful of a puncher as pavlik (no way no way) but pavlik's 90% ko's may be partly due to weaker opponents...he hasnt really been in there is elite A-class fighters...miranda is his most notable fight and miranda i dont consider and elite fighter...he has poor boxing technique and in my opinion is more of a brawler.
on the other side of things taylor's best opponents started with 2 fights with bernard hopkins that one him the title and gave him his first title defense...
since then he's been in with spinks, ouma, and wright...
before this he really didnt have too many notable opponents.
however it is an advantage...taylor has made some title defenses and appears to me more the real deal than pavlik...for now...may change.
just the fact that neither fighter has been knocked down, both undefeated, and knowing pavlik has a chin of stone and taylor's hasnt been really tested makes things extremely interesting...
if taylor loses you can expect a rematch.
after the fight is over one fighter will finally have a number 1 in the loss column, chins will be tested (you can bet on that...) and we will see if taylor's chin is strong or if he's avoided it from being tested by fighting the likes of spinks, ouma, and wright because they arent known for their knockout power...
or taylor has done this purposely to fool a big hitter into thinking he cant take a punch...for all we know taylor's chin could be just as strong as pavlik's...who knows...
i personally dont believe taylor has a chin of stone...i dont think its a glass chin but its not the best in the game...
taylor has lots of heart and the only way i see him losing is if he gets knocked out. if it goes to the scorecards it should give taylor the edge...
however if taylor is indeed going toe to toe as he boasts then i have to say its a bad move...
you dont want to go and basically abandon your natural (very good at that) boxing technique...talent if you will to stand toe to toe with a very hard hitting...stone chined...brawler...it just doesnt make sense to me...i know he wants respect and to become a top ppv household name like a Floyd MAyweather jr, oscar de la hoya, bhop, etc. but i dont think this is the way he needs to do it...
after this fight (whether it ends via scorecards or knockout) their faces will look like they just got done with a heavyweight bout...no matter what styles they use they will both take some good shots...i just believe taylor should use his god given talent to his advantage...especially against a brawler...Comment

Another fine post from Big Frank....I agree almost 100%, with the exception that I think Pavlik will win. But, it really depends upon how Taylor elects to play it. If he gets into a pride game with Pavlik, and I think he will, then Pavlik has much much more than just a puncher's chance. In this fight (in my opinion) age doesnt play a factor. neither is at a age considered too young or too old.

Your question was: "What makes your stats official?" C'mon....All you had to ask was "where did you get that stat?...etc.." I don't think I was being thin skinned on that one. This being said, let's forget it, ok? Seriously...Cheers.Comment
