maybe boxing is not as popular as years ago, but here is a huge number of people that are boxing fans and they would never switch no mma. boxing will never die, because it has a history too strong behind it, and has that special thing that no other combat sport has imo.
at least i started watching boxing this year, so you can count one more fan on the list =D

Believe it.

And I never said boxing was dead. I said it was dying. It's a slow process. But MMA PPV's are consistently selling more. The top dog in boxing is doing better but other then that UFC is selling more and I have seen stats to prove this. And they have the better product. Nothing but great fights on all of the cards.

Oh, and I am a boxing fan. I am just a realist not a fan boy.
You are referring to the stats they had on ESPN and they only had HBO PPV's. There have been many Top Rank PPV's and other small PPVs that they didn't count. And even with it only being HBO the numbers were close. There has never been any proof at all that said boxing's so called decline was related to MMA's success.

Its obvious why boxing isn't as popular. It's mostly on pay channels, there is too much politics, and its just not promoted well at all. Now tell me who's fault that is? Joe Rogan's ****** accusations of Boxing being swallowed up were wrong. If anything they have themselves to blame, and from the looks of it they have figured that out.

I like MMA, and I still try and watch the big fights, but the talk of it swallowing up boxing is just wrong.

By the current trends yes. My main point is that trends don't carry on forever. They never have, and they never will. Trends always plateau somewhere. Always. Think about it, 15 years ago after Gretzky was traded and The Mighty Ducks came into theatres hockey was a hugely booming sport in the USA. It flattened out. Everything flattens out. I'm sure MMA will still be there down the road, it will still be popular, but it will flatten out at some point. Maybe at a very high point, but still.

Believe me, I've met a lot of MMA fans who won't be watching the sport long term. Half of them don't even call it MMA, they call it "ultimate fighting", adn they don't know the slightest thing about it. Some fans will stay, but do you think all of the college age girls you see around a bar watching a UFC ppv are going to be watching 5 years down the road?

lol. My deal is that u said Boxing is basically dead, when its 20x times as popular as MMA on a world scale. MMA people are makin a big deal that they broke into England or some ****.

We've already cracked the rest of the world. Good luck EVER producing a star as popular as Muhammad Ali, or even as popular as MANNY PACQUIAO is in the phillaphines

I think its pathetic that the reporters in the media talk about it being dead when they don't even watch the ****ing sport.
Anyone in their right mind who actually follows the sport would know that boxing isn't dead.
An example of ignorance in the media. On Jim Rome's show he talked about Couture breaking his arm during his fight, and how boxers aren't tough enough to do that. So I guess Klitschko continuing to throw power jabs for four rounds after breaking his hand means nothing? Jeff Lacy going 10 rounds with a torn rotator cuff is just a walk in the park? Other than that he actually made some good points, but still it just goes to show you how ignorant the media is when they talk MMA vs. boxing

i bet you after 10 months down the road, media guys will still be using mayweather vs de la hoya as an example of how all boxing bouts go down, when the weekend before another fight of the year candidate is completely ignored.

and people, if you haven't noticed. boxing is on an UPSWING that started last year.

What else did he say? thats pathetic that he would say that cause of COARSE there are plenty of boxers tough enough to do that. Floyd Mayweather, who everyone seems to be calling a ***** these days, fights the last few rounds of almost all his fights with an injured hand.

I was actually just watching an amatuer match, where the guy dislocated his right shoulder and kept fighter and nearly won the fight with just one arm. He had his corner try to pop the shoulder back into the placy but they couldnt do it.

And Malignaggi fighter with a broken jaw is another example
