Will MMA take over Boxing in the next 10-20 years?

Correction. Boxing is popular in montreal. Not the rest of the Canada. I know that because I live here. And if you say the names "Pascal, Bute" to an average Canadian, and the name "Georges St. Pierre" - most of them would know Pierre from the get go. He is the bigger attraction in Montreal. Believe it.see, look at this statement right here.
This person plain has no clue what he's talking about. And almost none of you do.
How can you fail to realize, that countries like Mexico and the Phillapines IDOLIZE boxing. No country in the world even considers MMA a popular sport yet.
Boxing is skyrocketing in popularity in CANADA. 70,000 people are gonna watch 2 supermiddleweights (an unpopular division i might add) go at it. MMA has never attracted more then 25,000... and that was for there biggest event ever.
Lol. I laugh when people say boxing is dead or anywhere near it.
And if you want MORE proof of the fact that "IF YOU MAKE IT, THEY WILL COME" consider the fact that EVERY major end year fight will be held in front of SOLD OUT crowds.
Taylor-Pavlik tickets are flying, Mosley-Cotto is a sure sellout, Hatton-Mayweather is gonna have 15,000 Hatton fans alone make the flight from england and will sellout within a week. Calzaghe Kessler has already sold upwards of 25,000 seats. When does a Pacquiao fight not sellout? especially when he's facing Barrera.
Boxing is doing great at the current moment cause the best are fighting the best.
And another thing you can assure yourself of, is that Hatton-Mayweather, Cotto-Mosley, and Taylor-Pavlik will ALL gain Mainstream coverage for there fights in the US.
And I never said boxing was dead. I said it was dying. It's a slow process. But MMA PPV's are consistently selling more. The top dog in boxing is doing better but other then that UFC is selling more and I have seen stats to prove this. And they have the better product. Nothing but great fights on all of the cards.
Oh, and I am a boxing fan. I am just a realist not a fan boy.Comment

but quite simply, there product ISNT better. Its untalented garbage and people will hopefully realize this. Big fights are secluded to HBO unfortunetly.Correction. Boxing is popular in montreal. UFC has SPIKETV to hype all the fights and replay fights and what not. THats a popular chanel.
And UFC does sell consistant ill give you that, but thats cause there sport is promoted brilliantly. I give the UFC crew all the credit in the world.
One thing thats really interesting is this. If you Put a BIG banner outside MADISON SQUARE GARDEN and you just have the letters UFC on it and a date, no names, your gonna sell more seats then a banner that says BOXING and a date.
The reason is, UFC sypbolized the best and most exciting in the wide landscape of the sport. Boxing represents an entire sport, from amatuers to low time professions.
So to promote UFC you dont need to promote the name, you can promote the sport itself. Its easier to do AND they do a great job of getting the name out there.
People say BOxing should learn from the UFC, but theres nothing to learn from them unless you make a league of some sort u know?
But boxing will never die, it'll just remain the NICHE sport it is in the states now, at the worst. At best, it'll rise again which i think it will in like a few decades maxComment

I'm going to post without reading all replies so hope I dont copy. But MMA is a fad. Its been around a while but is just now getting popular. I feel it will stay popular for a while but will eventually die out.Comment

Dude, nice retort there, lol. All you did was basically blame UFC for having great promoters. Idiot.but quite simply, there product ISNT better. Its untalented garbage and people will hopefully realize this. Big fights are secluded to HBO unfortunetly.

Boxing is also gaining a bit in Ontario now that Steve Molitor is holding a world title belt. Also, it isn't just Montreal, it is all of Quebec. They've also just had the first professional show in Vancouver in many years just recently and it sold out. Boxing still has a long ways to go out west but this is a step in the right direction.Correction. Boxing is popular in montreal. Not the rest of the Canada. I know that because I live here. Overall, on the international scene, boxing is booming right now. It has never been so popular outside of America.
The mainstream media and the general population are just fixated on the heavyweight division. Sometime within the next 10 years, there will be a great American heavyweight to come along.
There have been a lot of great fights this year. De La Hoya - Mayweather was great for the sport. I don't care if it wasn't an all out slugfest. It got 2 million people watching a boxing PPV. There is a ton of fights coming up and not only that, there is going to be a third season of The Contender.
People don't understand that trends always plateau eventually. MMA has been growing in recent years, sure. That doesn't mean that it is going to keep growing until boxing doesn't exist anymore and every man, woman, and child on the entire planet watches MMA.
It reminds me of back when I was in high school around grade 8 or 9 and Microsoft was booming. Everyone was saying that the only way you could get a job ten years down the road was as a computer programmer or some other job to do explicity with computers because everything was going to be computer or robot operated, so become a computer expert or there is no hope for employement. The trend flattened out eventually. It plateaued. These things always plateau. Trends don't carry on until the end of the earth.Comment

You make some good points. I dont know the future...nor do I want too. and by the current trends I am seeing boxing is going to be taken over by MMA. That is all I am saying. I would love to be wrong.Boxing is also gaining a bit in Ontario now that Steve Molitor is holding a world title belt. Also, it isn't just Montreal, it is all of Quebec. lol all this talk about boxing being dead was so overblown. So the media doesn't cover it as much as they used to. Maybe its not as popular anymore. I don't think it should be like that, but so be it. The talent level is the same if not better, and there are still great fights being made.
I think its pathetic that the reporters in the media talk about it being dead when they don't even watch the ****ing sport. Anyone in their right mind who actually follows the sport would know that boxing isn't dead.Comment
