Nobody else on this board, as far as the general opinion goes, gives Ricky Hatton much credit at all. If anything, he's underrated. He's expected to lose to Mayweather, anybody who knows anything about boxing and it's styles knows that.

Hatton is expected to lose to Mayweather, and if he does I won't say Hatton was overrated. He's an undefeated, young Champion in his prime with 2 high profile wins and 1 very underrated win (Carlos Maussa) on his resume. If Ricky loses, it's not a matter of him sucking. It's a matter of Mayweather dominating.
unbeaten versus who?...tzou and castillo name anybody else...........and u think Maussa is world class talent......?

ha ha ha. Whats more complex of a sport. Ping pong or boxing????????? Start a thread, I dont care. Boxing is gonna win every time. Heck, even on a ping pong forum it will.

people need to look at earlier Hatton clips. I admit the very first Hatton fight full length that I had EVER seen was in January 2007 vs Urango.

I have to admit in all honesty that after the first 6 rounds. nothing Hatton did really impressed me. (it was later said after the fight that he had a chest infection or something)

*why did it take the chest infection 7 rounds to get to Hatton, and make him have to hold the rest of the fight. but thats another story.

anyway. regarding Hatton. check out his earlier youtube clips, when he was the WBU champion (I know the title doesn't sound impressive) .. but Ricky would just TEAR through people. Tony Pep and his next 4 opponents were taken out.

and no he didn't hold. he just came forward, ripping shots to the face and body.

but going by level of opposition (earlier in Hatton's career). lets say for the sake of argument that Ricky Hatton is the best 140 pd British fighter ever. that would mean that Ricky should beat a majority of the competition, including fellow Brits. in fact if he's the best British fighter, bearing upsets, shouldn't he beat just about ANYONE he faces?

(going under the logic that Ricky is a high B level fighter, obviously talented .. but going up against not bad, but boxers who he is better than)

This is true i have to agree....so u think that at 147 hatton is gonna tear through mayweather....a weight he has looked horrible at ...and after his one win at the weight he dropped back down because he knew better....thats 1 weight class he went up...mayweather has gone up 4 times.... and has won at every weight... hatton wouldnt have a chance at 140 either.....

What does Floyd do? Throws a right hand then gets on his bike. It goes both ways.

It's called a clash of styles.

            • level of comp.

seriously saying ping pong is one dimentional is like saying the same thing about tennis

Andy Rod**** serves the ball 155 miles per hour.

yet he hasn't won a major since 2003.

I will agree that against the higher level opponents, Hatton has held more (vs Castillo, Collazo)

cuz when the level of opponent isn't high, he motors right through them.

If Hatton does what you mentioned above, then what does Floyd do? He is not a beautiful combination puncher like Mel**** Taylor. He throws a right hand and gets on his bike. Every time out.

Tell me if that's what Hatton did when he was fighting Kostya Tszyu.

Hatton fought one of the ugliest (and somewhat dirtier) fights in recent memory when he forced Tszyu to quit. It was totally unconventional.

He fought like a madman, he fought like it was life or death..

If that guy shows up against Mayweather - and we're not too far removed from 2005 or the circumstances that would drive Hatton into a frenzy - there's a better than 50% chance in my mind that that guy beats Floyd.

Strategy and science are not part of my equation.

It's more about natural law and Animal Planet for this one..

who cares whats a more "complex" sport.

                    • I guess I can't get past the matchup issue. I don't think that the physical attributes of Hatton will allow him to effectively overcome Floyd's defensive skills. And at the same time I don't think Hatton's defense will be effective against Floyd's pot shots.

I can't see Hatton doing a whole lot of damage and I see him getting hit a lot.

Not taking anything away from Hatton, he's a powerful fighter, just looks like a bad match up to me.
